Bermuda: To cruise or not to cruise?

We will be honeymooning in Bermuda (wohoo!). My fiance would like to take a cruise to Bermuda but I'm on the fence. Has anyone taken a cruise to Bermuda? Or just flown there and stayed on the resorts? Which is better? Help!

Re: Bermuda: To cruise or not to cruise?

  • I cruised there with my family two years ago and loved it!  it depends on what you are looking for though.  Do you want to be on dry land for a week and spend the entire time on Bermuda?  Or do you want to do all the things the ship has to offer, spend a few days in Bermuda, and then more time on the ship.  I enjoy cruises in general so it was an easy sell for me.

  • We are looking to plan a trip to Bermuda too. We like the idea of a cruise just because we are on the east coast and they are really affordable. However, most of the cruises I've found still seem to be during the colder months and I'm not sure how hot Bermuda will be? A few people I know who have taken the cruise we are itnerested in didn't seem to LOVE it. However, if we were going to just fly to an island for a week to vacation I'm not sure Bermuda would be the one we would pick and I think there are a lot other nicer islands in the Caribbean. We are still looking into the cruise option. At least if we don't love the island we can have fun on the ship!

  • Not to cruise! Not to cruise!

Bermuda is beautiful! Stay on the island!!!!

The resorts are quite pricey, but you can find other accommodations that are cheaper.  I went two years ago and stayed at the Sandpiper Guest Apartments:

There are two beaches within 5 minutes walk from the place which are stunning.  We had a taxi take us from the airport to the accomodations, but for the rest of the trip, we bought a bus pass (which are available for 1 week durations--I think shorter stays as well) which took us everywhere.  It is about a 15 minute bus ride from Hamilton, which isn't bad at all...(everything on the island isn't that far away to begin with).

    ....now I'm missing Bermuda!

    Not to cruise!!

I used to LOVE cruises with my family- then my FI and I went on one 2 years ago and HATED it.

We felt there wasn't enough time on each island- we were always on the ship's schedule- we hated our dinner mates- I felt like we never had any privacy unless we were tucked away in our tiny state room, etc

Cruises were great as a kid and I will probably take my family on cruises in the future- but as a HM- I don't know if I want to be surrounded by all the different age groups and feel the need to socalize with others.  I would like more time on the island and set my schedule based on us.

If cruises are for you- have fun!  I just thought I would share my experience - hopefully it will help you weigh your options.
  • We are looking into taking a cruise for our honeymoon. My fiance isn't one to just lay on the beach - so we thought this would be a great middle ground b/c we will have many options of things to do as well as the ability to lay around as well. What cruise lines have you used or would recommend? I've only heard great things about Royal Caribean and not so great things about Carnival. Any preferences?
    Thanks!

  • We cruised to Bermuda on Royal Caribbean and L~O~V~E~D it!!!!!
The port (Bayonne in NJ) was 20 mins from us, so our vacation literally started right away ~ no annoying airport time.
We were docked in Bermuda over night too, so we could explore atnight (did a nighttime Bermuda Triangle tour!) and not have to rush about getting nack in time.
I would highly recommend it! I have a ton of pics too, let me know if you want o see & I will friend you on facebook!
