My Publisher Album

Hi, I am posting in a couple of different spots to get several opinions. I am working on our wedding album in My Publisher and after about three months of moving and tweeking the layout, I am finally ready to order (I know... about time!). I

cannot make up my mind if I want to do the matte regular paper option or the high gloss. I know the high gloss brings out the color more, but I have always been a matte photo paper kind of girl. Matte paper always felt more professional, where as the gloss always felt like your standard 4x6 print from the 24 Photo Center....

So with that said, for those of you that have done your album or have experience with My Publisher, what do you prefer and why?

Thank you!

Re: My Publisher Album

  • I got the high gloss, and to me it doesn't seem super glossy, as the name would imply. I don't know if that helps. This isn't something I cared too much about though, to be completely honest. I got it for our honeymoon album. If you prefer matte paper, you should probably just go for that. That's my two cents.
  • Don't get the matte paper. My best friend did and it looked cheap and didn't do the photos justice. She reordered the same thing with high gloss. It will look like a crappy picture book, not like a wedding album.
  • I ordered our wedding album, our parents albums and our honeymoon album from My Publisher with the matte printing and thought they turned out great, not cheap looking at all. I don't care for glossy pictures though. I did upgrade to their best premium paper--it's very thick and a great quality. Maybe that makes a difference with the matte printing?

Did she do the most expensive matte paper or just go with the standard? Way too many optoins!!! I saw a video on YouTube of the super gloss and it was too shiny for me, so that is why I am leaning towards the matte. I also saw there was a Satin options....
  • I ordered from my publisher a few albums. I selected the best quality paper in satin finish (No upgrade to super gloss). It is quite nice. If you have ever worked with or seen luster photo paper (it has a slight shine to it to help make the true colors show) it reminds me of that. A slight shine but not nearly as shiny as glossy.

Did you do the lay-flat pages? How thick are the satin pages if you did the lay flat option?

    Thank you!
  • The thinkness shouldn't change due to it being glossy vs matte. Also the thinness does not seem to change on lay flat pages vs normal. The lay flat looks much nicer and more professional. The paper is still thin compared to the cardboard like pages you get from professional photographers. The high quality paper/ upgrade paper from my publisher is durable. Much thiker then photo paper.

  • Ok so here is what I have concluded:
So I think my decision is: Linen cover with lay-flat satin pages. The satin pages resemble a Luster paper with a little bit of gloss, but not as glossy as the high gloss. The pages are still thick, but not as thick as professional/more costly album.

Sound about right? Thank you! I think I may finally order it tonight!

  • What did you think? I am ordering mine right now and can't decide between super glossy and the deluxe paper! I am usually a matte kind of girl too. Please let me know what you thought about your purchase! Thanks!
