Trip in the States?

Hi everyone.  My finance and I are both from Wyoming and are looking at having a honeymoon in the states.  We are getting married Oct. 8 so it would be a mid October honeymoon.  We were thinking some place like Florida for the warm weather, or someplace like Boston for the pretty fall weather.  We both LOVE sports and having things to do.  Neither one of us wants to sit around a pool all day.  If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Thanks for the help!

Re: Trip in the States?

  • We are taking  our HM in the USA. We are doing 3 days in Joshua Tree National park area, 3 days in San Francisco, 3 days in the Yosemite National Park area and then heading to Hawaii on the way home. We like to hike and walk so the national parks seemed like a good choice.
  • There's plenty to do in Florida in October. The weather is beautiful there (I am getting married there in October, for that exact reason!) They love their sports, especially in the Tampa area, there are water sports just like anywhere else if you stay at the beach, plus museums, great restaurants, and lots of bars. I think that's a great choice :-)

  • I may be biased b/c I grew up near there, but Chicago is tons of fun. The weather could be warm or chilly in Oct.; it's rather fickle, but either way, there is still lots to do. Museums, musicals/plays, tons of shopping, bike rentals, just walking around and exploring the city, plus lots of great hotels and restaurants. Believe me, you will never be bored!

  • If you guys are not beach or pool people I would say Boston and the Northeast. Travel the Northeast,
    go see :

-York Beach, Maine where they make salt water taffy in front of you.
    -Boston
        - Red Sox Game
        - Aquarium
        - Quincy Market - Cheers!
-Stay at a bed and Breakfast in New Hampshire
    -Go see Burlington VT
         - Ride the Ferry to NY
         - Underground Mall
    -Visit Rhode Island
-See the Adirondack Mountains in NY

There is lots to see in the northeast and it is really pretty here in October.

  • Have you been to NYC? there is soooooo much to do and see! I rec. staying at the Morgans Hotel  (free breakfast/boutique hotel/great!) and going from there. Shows, Empire State Bldg,  Statue of Liberty, etc.
  • We're doing the Grand Canyon which should be fabulous, as is New York City.. but being from Boston, I must say - Boston would be quite a nice time in October.  The weather in October is a wonderful, the leaves are amazing, and there's a TON to do..
I can even recommend certain areas if you are looking for something specific (like suburban, city, mountains, along the water, etc.).

In Gloucester, the seafood is out of this world (this is the place that The Perfect Storm happened in).

Salem will be in full haunt mode because of the Halloween and the Salem witch trials.. There will be trolley rides, witch museums, pirate museums, parades, and lots of tourist stuff to do (which I still do even though I live in the next town because it's so fun).

Boston has the Red Sox who will hopefully still be playing at that time and there's always Foxboro which has Patriot Place - a really neat place.

Mount Monadnock is about 2 hours away from Boston.. it's about a 3 hour hike but it's BEAUTIFUL.  Small town NH is gorgeous.  There are zoos, aquariums, boston duck tours, fishing trips, cruises, 2 hours south are casinos...

Also, I must suggest South Carolina.  I lived in Columbia for a little while.  It's beautiful there in October as well.. Riverbanks zoo and botanical gardens is one of my top five favorite places in the world.  Charleston is beautiful and historic as well.  I've never met nicer people in my life down there and the food was delish!

  • Thank you guys for your input.  We are HUGE Red Sox fans (yes even out here in Wyoming) ha. So getting to see Fenway would be amazing.  I was worried Boston wouldn't have things we would be interested in besides the sports, but you guys gave great information.  I really appreciate it!  If anyone has Wyoming questions, please let me know I can help out with my area.
  • Ooh, if you're HUGE Sox fans, you have to schedule a tour of Fenway.. It's really awesome!

  • If we go to Boston there is no way we could avoid Fenway.  We were thinking of having our wedding in September, so we could get tickets and watch a game for our honeymoon.  :)
  • We are getting married Oct. 15th and doing this:

    2 nights Charleston
    1 night St. Augustine
    4 nights Disney World
    1 night Savahanna

We are going to WY next fall!

Just piggy backing off this.  You can go to Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard.  Rates are cheaper in the fall.  Martha's Vineyard is beautiful.

Newport, RI is nice with all the mansions.

Salem, MA is cool especially in October with all the witch stuff in full effect.

  • I agree with all the New England stuff because I lived near Boston for 6 years, and it is incredible!

If you are huge sports fans, check into the Patriots schedule. You'd have to be blind to miss the stadium in Foxboro! Plus October is also (I think) the start of hockey and basketball season.

I agree about York Beach as well, it's SO fun. But, October is more for foliage changes than beaches.

I'd add all the historic sites in Boston, the Old North Church, Faneiul Hall, go to the Italian neighborhood for great food. Make sure to see the JFK Library.......... it's incredible.
  • You guys are all the best! Thanks for the input.  I appreciate it.  Fenway tour sounds fabulous.
