Honeymoon Ideas

My FI and I are trying to pick our honeymoon but can't seem to make a decision.  Our honeymoon will be the second week in November.  We have some guidelines for it:

We want to stay in the U.S.
We do not want a cruise (FI is in the Navy and doesn't want to spend his vacation on a boat)
We do not want to go to Hawaii (FI was stationed there for 9 years so it's not something special)
We live in a beach area so we really don't want to go to another one.

Anyone have any ideas?

Re: Honeymoon Ideas

  • Mountains?  Skiing?  The New England area?  Seems like that's pretty much what's left to you at this point.
  • Las Vegas or California seem nice - San Diego, San Francisco, LA. Or since you'll be going when the weather is getting colder, something like Telluride, Colorado is lovely.
  • Key West was amazing. You can choose to go to the beach if you wish but there is so much more there than beaches (which aren't very good anyway).  We went for 5days 4nights for our anniversary and loved it. I though "ughh it's so tiny and there wont' be anything to do" not the case at all. We actually feel as though we didn't get to see half of what we wanted to so we are going back next year for our anniversary.
  • I live in Colorado and think it would be a great spot to honeymoon, especially if you are not looking for a beach honeymoon.  If you like the city Denver is fabulous (shopping, food, arts/entertainment, sports, natural history/art museums, the mint, etc...).  If you like more seclusion I would suggest Estes Park or Breckenridge.  Both are awesome.  Colorado Springs is also a wonderful destination for tourists.  You have Pikes Peak, Manitou Springs/Old Colorado City, the Broadmoor, Garden of the Gods, and a whole host of other touristy stuff.

No matter what you decide  I wish you all the luck in the world and a perfect honeymoon!  :)

  • Vegas? NYC? New Orleans?
  • new orleans, napa, new england, lake tahoe, denver co, yellowstone...
  • yellowstone is a great place to visit, but you need to check road closures and such for winter, since you'll be traveling so late. I worked 2 summers out there and some passes and gates close for the winter.

FI and I are honeymooning the same week and we are proably going to Gatlinburg TN. We can drive there, so we save on plane tickets, plus we both love fall and it is supposed to be in it's peak time then. We were originally thinking New England, but all the sites said that most of the fall color was gone by then.
We also looked into San Francisco, love the town, just a bit out of our budget. Hope this helped!

  • first thing that came to mind for me was Napa/San Fran.  also, Arizona or New Mexico could be cool.  that could lead you to Vegas also.

  • If you want mountains you can go to Poconos in PENNSYLVANIA, Las Vegas is fun for three nights but thats it...California is pretty and definately a wine country! You could always go to Tennessee to the smokie mountains!
  • I was going to chime in on the Vegas option as well.
  • check out Blackberry Farm in Walland TN it is hidden in the mountains absolutely gorgeous
