All-Inclusive

We know three things about our honeymoon: 1. we only want to go to an all-inclusive 2. we want to be on a beach 3. we want to go out of the country

So my question is.....what are some good ones to look into? I know Sandals are huge for honeymoons but what is all the hype about? Are they really that amazing? Has anyone been to an all-inclusive that is not a Sandals Resort? I want all the advice we can get. Bad experiences or great experiences and all the experiences in between. TIA!!!

PS we are honeymooning next July.

Re: All-Inclusive

  • Mexico has many great all-inclusives. We stayed at the Grand Palladium and it was really nice and the food was pretty good. For our Honeymoon we are staying at Secrets Maroma. It is adults-only all-unclusive. Look into Secrets, Dreams and Riu chains...Secrets is adult-only if that is what you are looking for, kind of liks Sandals.

  • We went to Sandals Grande Ocho Rios in Jamaica for our Honeymoon and loved it.   We just got back last week from a trip to P*nta Cana for our first anniversary and stayed at Excellence P*nta Cana.    Both were adults-only.

Excellence had a great beach and awesome pool and the service was awesome.   Sandals in Ocho Rios doesn't really have much of a beach and is split into two parts.   We really enjoyed both and would recommend them to anyone.

If price was an issue, Excellence was a lot cheaper than Sandals.  The Sandals resorts tend to be on the more expensive side.      I felt at the Excellence you get pretty much the same stuff for a lot less money!

  • Occidental and Riu are big names as well in the AI for Mexico and the Caribbean. Both are nice, but it also depends on how old the resort is. I thought DR was great for just hanging out at the beach/pool.

We just got back from Couples Tower Isle which is an all inclusive in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. We absolutely LOVE it! We had such an amazing time, and got so much for our money. Also, it was not a very crowded place. I have heard Sandal is beautiful, but there is a ton of people, and they are on you a lot to "do stuff" like activities and mingle. We just wanted to bum around & be alone in a beautiful location, which is what we did. So a lot depends on the ype of honeymoon you want. We got a great deal too... 1 week, all meals & dinks, plus airfare 1st class both ways for $2600. (They were having a honeymoons sale at Liberty Travel when we booked.)

Being married is a real thriller! =)

  • thanks so much for the advice. We are not into seeing sights or shopping we really just want to be beach bums the whole week. Thanks for all the options!!!
  • We're also staying at Secrets Maroma in Riveria Maya for our HM!

I've stayed at Iberostar in RM and it was nice...but definitely worth the upgrade to the adults only hotel (ours had kids in it, I think it's Del Mar)

FSIL and FIL have both traveled (sepeartely) to Iberostar in Dominican Republic and loved it.
  • We honeymooned at Secrets Maroma Beach, Mexico in May '09.  We loved everythign about it (service, food, room, etc.) and it has one of the top 10 most beautiful beaches in the world.  I'd return in a heartbeat.  There is a review in my married bio if you are interested.

We stayed at a Sandals resort for our 1 yr anniversary this past May.  There is absolutely no comparison between Secrets and Sandals.  In my opinion, Sandals is overpriced; you get more for the money with Secrets.  Also, the food and service were way better at Secrets.
  • We will also be staying at Secrets Maroma Beach for our HM in May. I read a TON of reviews here and on TripAdvisor and never found anything bad about that place. We wanted a beautiful resort with great food, awesome beach, and the option to get out and do something for a day or two, and this place has all of that. I would definitely recommend looking into it!
  • We went to a wedding in Jamiaca and stayed at the Breezes resort in Runaway Bay. They have a few of them on other islands as well - and we would definitely go back! All we did was lay on the beach & enjoy some cold beverages..it was perfect.
