Can't decide where to go!

There are just too many possibilities to choose from! We are getting married in October and the honeymoon will follow right afterwards. Due to hurricane season, the Carribean is out, but the current list includes: Italy, Portugal, Thailand, Bali, Hawaii, Costa Rica, a Med. cruise... and on it goes. We want a place with nice, warm weather, but we're not glued to the idea of a beach holiday. We'd almost like the best of everything - beach, warm weather (doesn't have to be hot tho), culture, tours, etc.  Any suggestions? And it doesn't necessarily have to be from the list above...

Re: Can't decide where to go!

  • My vote is for Thailand or Bali. I loved Thailand with a burning passion.

What did you love about Thailand? My sister has been and raves about it, but her idea of fun and travel is completely different from mine, so I'm on the fence about it.
  • Well, I love Thai food, so that was a big part of it. Sometimes I think all of my travels revolve around finding great food. Embarassed I thought the cultural stuff was really fascinating. Bangkok was such an interesting city to walk around! We went to temples, markets, shopping centers. I did Phuket too, but was mostly there to get my scuba certification - which I would highly recommend doing too! It's quite touristy in places, but the area is just gorgeous! There's a great nightlife, if that's your thing. The hotel we stayed at in Phuket was insanely gorgeous too. Just breathtaking (for a great price - though this was 2005).

I remember there being a fair bit of English being spoken, so that was really helpful as well.
  • We are getting married in October and going to Aruba. It's outside of the hurricane belt of the Caribbean.
  • Aruba- THe RIU PALACE!!

or I highly recommend Salzburg Austria and  Switzerland...
  • I'm getting married in SEPT, and also going to Aruba because it's outside the hurricane belt.
  • We're doing London, Paris and Brugge! All of them can be reached from eachother by taking an hour or 2 train ride, so it's a great way to get the hustle and bustle of London & Paris, but also get the relaxing and romantic city of Brugge (I've heard raves about how beautiful and relaxing Brugge is, so I'm really excited for that). It's a nice way to get a bit of everything. Culture, food, romance, relaxation. We're not getting any beach...but there's so many places in Europe that can be reached by train (check out the Eurostar's website if you're interested) that the option are ENDLESS. Good luck!! =]
  • My FI and I are tempting fate and still planning a late Oct. Caribbean cruise. We figure even if a storm hits, how can you have a bad time on a floating playground? ;)
  • If your wedding is in October and you are looking for warm weather, then Europe is out.  The South Pacific is an excellent option if money is no object. Thailand, Bali, Fiji, Tahiti... all excellent options.    Hawaii would be great in October.  I would not discount the Caribbean.  You will actually find some good deals... just make sure to purchase travel insurance.  Aruba, Curacao, Roatan... they are all located much farther south and outside the hurricane belt.

It will be rainy season in Central America.... while Costa Rica is beautiful, you will experience rain at least once a day (heavy down pours!).  It will be spring in South America... maybe Brazil?

  • My vote would be for a cruise. It allows you to see so many places at once. If you want to relax on the boat by the pool you can if you want to sightsee you can. Most ships are all american food and american dollars and you get american tour guides on the excursions.

We are doing our cruise to Italy, Egypt, Isreal, and Greece through www.CelebrityCruises.com. I have never been on it but my cousins who have traveled all over the world including Thailand, and very extravagant places love it!

    Hope this helps
