Bachelorette party (kind of long)

Hello! I must admit I have been doing more reading on this board than posting, but I wanted to get some opinions from the lovely CFL Knotties. I am the maid of honor for my bff, and I have been going back & forth about ideas for her bachelorette party. It's going to be a group of no more than 10 (most likely closer to 5 ladies), so not a large group, and we are all in CFL for the most part (the bride's sister, who is matron of honor, will be in town already from out of state). The bride's main request is that it isn't such a huge group so she will feel more comfortable to let loose and have fun. (she already told me exactly who to invite, lol.) Ideally I would like to do a one-night overnight party somewhere that we won't have to worry about transportation. I thought to book a room for the night at the Grand Bohemian and partying downtown, but a recent wedding I was in already did that (same group of ladies). Then I thought maybe Hard Rock/City Walk area, or Hard Rock in Tampa, but I was afraid that might be too pricey for some. Then I thought maybe Ybor City - we had partied there once before, and I know the bride-to-be had fun, and this time we would actually stay in the area, so we could (in theory) just walk down the street to the nightlife. I figured that would be fun and different, less expensive than Hard Rock, and not too inconvenient to get to, as we could carpool over. I mentioned the idea to some of the other ladies who would attend and they seemed to be on board too (they were all pretty excited about the overnight idea). My basic plan is to check into the hotel in the afternoon, then relax while everyone shows up, perhaps squeeze in some pampering or activity time. Then dinner and partying until the wee hours. I would arrange for late check out and have a group meal before leaving for home in the afternoon. Sounds simple enough but a fun night away from the boys. Only thing is, one of my guy friends said Ybor was "awful" and was also concerned about our safety (he meant well), and recommended that I not do it in Ybor. I had only been to Ybor once and remembered it as being fun and not too packed (I went during Gasparilla weekend a couple years back - the night before the big parade). Any thoughts? Is Ybor really that bad? Has anyone been to a bachelorette party in Ybor? I figure if Ybor is really that awful I can perhaps just have the bachelorette party at Citywalk after all... I haven't been to a lot of them here in CFL though, what have you all done/been to near/around CFL? Sorry for the rambling, lol... but thanks in advance for your thoughts/advice!

I haven't been down to Ybor in awhile, but if you want to do Tampa, Channelside is a good place too. Channelside has hotels nearby which would make it easy to get a cab or possibly walk. My friend had her bachelorette party there, and we all had a great time. www.channelsidebayplaza.com There are plenty of bars to party at in one central location. There is even a Howl at the Moon which always is great for b-parties.

I lived in Tampa for about 5 years and never really cared for Ybor. The area around it is not really that great but the main strip of places is ok. Channelside was just in the beginning phases when I moved to Orlando so there was not a lot built but sounds nice.

If it was me and it was only for one night I would rather just stay in town and go to citywalk and stay there ( which is actually what I am doing). It just seems like an extra step and drive to do something you can do in orlando.

i agree with PP. If you're going to do Tampa, you should go to channelside. it is a lot nicer than Ybor. I currently live in Tampa and haven't gone to Ybor in years but i dont remember it being the best place around, plus i dont see many hotels in sight close to it. either channelside, or citywalk would be your best bets! Or the hard rock hotel! HTH!

I agree with all the other girls. If you go to Tampa don't go to Ybor it is a bit scary especially if its just going to be a small group of girls. However, Channelside is a lot of fun & there are hotels nearby. What's really neat is that most hotels either have a shuttle to Channelside or you can catch a ride on the trolley. If you wanted to stay in Orlando - I recently hosted a Bachelorette party with my fellow bridesmaids and we stayed at the Embassy Suites in Downtown Orlando. We all split the cost of 2 rooms and it was great! You even get free breakfast in the morning. There is also a guy that comes by the hotel with a very large golf cart and for $10 he will drive you girls to the clubs! You just have to call him in advance. I don't have his number anymore, but the hotel will have it. Hope this helps!!

I agree- Channelside is definitely better and more safe-feeling. Last time I was in Ybor, it was daytime, so there wasn't much partying going on, but there were too many "Ladies for Hire" around for me to stick around too long. I don't know how it normally is though. If you wanted to try the Hard Rock Hotel, see if someone in your group has an annual pass to Universal- I'm pretty sure you can get a discount on the hotel with it.

Never been to Ybor but I have heard a lot of bad things from my cousins who live in Tampa. We did (part) of mine at CityWalk and I loved it. Sometimes you can get good rates at Lowes hotels but you have to ask more than one person. If you are all local, see if you know anyone who works there who could get you a better rate. My mom did this for some of our OOT guests. hth!

So change of plans as of a couple weeks ago... the bride to be's coworkers decided to throw a wedding shower for all the coworkers of both the bride to be and groom to be, on the same day of the bachelorette party... so Orlando it is! Going to book a hotel in downtown Orlando & probably will do VIP at Tabu, most likely.
