I missed the memo- Cheap EU flights?!

We're headed to EU in Mar/April and while we have an ideal flight; at $950pp we're willing to consider cheaper options.

I looked up Iceland air; but didn't have much luck.  We're looking to fly out of ORD to AMS (amsterdam) on either Thu, 3/29 or Fri, 3/30 and return (ideally from London) on Sun 4/15 or Mon 4/16.

Anyone willing to help me research flights and beat $950pp? TIA

  • In my opinion, if you're looking at two one-way tickets instead of round trip, this isn't a bad price.

Thanks; we would actually book them as a multicity flight so I'm not sure how it compares to the pricing of one-way tickets.

I think it's a decent price as well; but I'm just nervous that once we book we'll see a cheaper option; as is often the case when booking flights.  I thought it wouldnt' hurt to ask.
  • I just got super cheap (i.e. $1395 for two round trip tickets) to Istanbul from IAD flying back into DCA (both washington area airports) on vayama.com

But we looked at flying into Amsterdamn--Iceland Air had good prices, but it sounds like you've already tried that.

On Vayama, using the March 29th-April 14th, I found $892 pp flying from ORD-AMS (layover in PHL) and LGW-ORD (layover at CLT).  Direct I found $943 pp, which sounds pretty good to me (so no better than you already found).

Being that you're flying in and out of different airports, I think anywhere around $900 is pretty darn good.
  • Thanks Freebread!  Sounds like maybe we should just bite the bullet and cross this item off the list!
  • HZ, I would consider buying a rountrip ticket for either London or Amsterdam and getting a low cost carrier between the two. It's a hassle, but it could save you a ton of money.

Say you just buy a rount trip ticket to London, since that is most likely cheaper. Find a Ryanair or Easy Jet flight from London to Amsterdam later that day (obviously give yourselves enough time in case of delays). Then when your trip ends you just fly out of London again.
