So I ran into some problems at the bank and  just wanted to share my experience with all the brides to be prepared.  If you get checks that are written out to you AND your spouse with your new married name, you can not put them in your bank account until your name has been changed.  However, if the check is made out to blank OR blank they will allow one signature.  The Magic word is OR.

What if you don't have a joint bank account? can he deposit it in his bank account or must it be joint?

the bank said if it is written out to Mr and Mrs Doe, John and Jane Doe, John doe and Jane Smith etc. It must have 2 signatrues.  But if your name hasn't been changed yet you can not sign the check until you have your new name.  If it says John or Jane Doe, John Doe or Jane smith only one signature is needed.  I'm not sure if you'll be able to deposit the checks if they say "and" until you have a joint account.  you will also need to bring a copy of your marriage license.  It's a big pain and I can't wait until all the legal stuff is done with.

Our bank allowed us to deposit all of our checks. I explained that we had just been married and it was not a problem.

Our bank was pretty cool about it too.  I ended up changing my name the Monday after our wedding but the bank told us they only needed one signature.
