Outdoor Wedding in late March

Hi everyone! This is my first post...  :)We are getting married on March 20th on New Smyrna Beach, the reception will be outdoors. Since we are having an authentic luau, we are waiting until about 7 to start the reception so it will be darker. (We want the fire dancers and tikis to look cool) Now, I am new to FL and I am freaking out that it will be too cold....I am looking for the opinion of natives to let me know what they think about the weather in late march. We will have tikis and fire pits, so that may help warm things up...but I am not sure. I can still change the date if I absolutely have to.  Help!

Welcome to the Board! Here in CFL it is never too cold. Never, ever. =) March should be great weather. Possibly pretty hot though.

Hiya... welcome and congrats :-)I think that late into March you should be okay... the lows might be in the 60's but any people traveling down for your wedding (and natives) will probably check the weather and be prepared for the weather.  I wouldn't worry about changing the date... April you have to worry about rain and then getting into May, June, July etc you have to worry about it then being too hot.

Last year I went to a wedding in late Feb. and it was blazing hot outside, then went to one in March on the beach and it was freezing - in like the 50's at night, and then went another 2 weeks later and it was back to be blazin hot.  FL weather does funny things.

Congrats and that sounds like so much fun! With my experience, March on the water CAN be cold.  I grew up here and we had some chilly Spring Breaks.  And some were scorching hot! It's FL - anything can happen.  Just keep an eye on the weather and be prepared for different situations. Ideas: sides for the tent if it's windy, heaters if it's cold, fans if it's hot, etc. GL!!! PS - My cousin was married in the Keys in February.  I got a sunburn laying out during the day, and it dropped to the 30's! that night... just shows you a variation!

i went to a wedding in SC this past march. it was on the beach in the afternoon and it was very windy. i wore a sweater. it will prob be gorgeous weather, but if it is windy it might be colder than you expect. i wouldn't worry about it! just mention to ppl that they should bring a light sweater in case it gets windy!

I would have to agree with everyone on here. The weather varies, it most likely will be warmer, but March is the end of our so called "Cold season" They are right in saying that it might be windy, but the coast is always more windy than the rest of FL. The coldest it would prob. get in later March would be the 60's, and that is at night.

well.... I guess the definition of cold can be different... I lived in NC for a while and then when we moved down here I was never cold when others were...I was the odd child who wore shorts in the 50 degree weather... hahaha...But like the others said... I'd just continuously check the weather report... and have back up plans for it being hot/humid or cold...

If it weren't on the beach, I wouldn't see a problem.  But you're on the ocean - BIG difference!!!

Thanks everyone! I am hoping it will be ok since most of our guests are coming from MD and PA, where the high temps probably wont even be breaking 60....so it should feel warm to them! :)Thanks for being so helpful....I don't know anyone in FL, so its nice to see this little community!

the wedding will be on the beach, but the reception will be in Deland....not sure if that makes a diff.

Haha. 60 is chilly to us down here. ;) It will definitely be warmer than they are used to. Especially since only the ceremony will be on the beach. You should come to our next get together! I think it's on Sept 26. Charisma, help!

Yeah, a lot of my family is from up north and when I am freezing over Christmas vacation they are in the pool, lol. Yes, the GTG is Saturday, the 26th. We have a facebook group where we send out the invites. =) Just search CFL Knotties and you will find us. Or search for me! =)

Alexia- you wouldnt see a problem with what?? I dont understand what you are defending yourself so much... Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of what cold is... right... everyone is different, and like i said, people from up north usually laugh when they we saw we are cold in 60 degree weather... fquino- you def wont have a problem since most of your guests are from up north.. and especially since your reception isnt on the beach! happy planning! :-)

I think Alexia was just saying that the weather would be less unpredictable if the wedding wasn't on the beach. The beach adds the wind factor! :)

I'm not defeding myself at all.  Just stating my opinions as I read comments.  If everyone is entitled to their opinion, what's the problem with me emphasizing that land weather and shore weather are different? If you have elderly people or children as guests, they tend to me way more sensitive to temperatures and have a harder time being comfortable.

If most of your Guests are from the north, they will be HAPPY for the weather....because remember they will be just coming out of winter! I am originally from Michigan, and my mom still lives there and she visits FL in January, February and March because she hates how friggin' cold it gets! Due to the wind, I would just suggest that the ladies bring a shawl or light sweater. But I dont think it will be too cold. And if the Luau is in Deland and not right on the beach, you should be fine :) One thing to consider for your Bridesmaids....Ask them if they'd want a shawl or cover up as well just in case. I say this because I was in a wedding in early May in Northern Michigan and it was an outdoor wedding....That being said, I think it was about 45 - 50 degrees outside...cloudy and rainy....I WAS FREEZING!!!!! Had I not had my shawl, I would have cried! But unless you plan on being on the beach for hours, I think all in all, you will be a-ok :)

Coming over from Nest... My parents live in NSB and I live in Orlando.  Over there, in March, it has been downright cold before.  Just FYI.
