UGH!  I know, I saw the story when I loged into my email acct with Yahoo this morning.  Who is that man to judge who can get married?  The couple is doing the right thing by filing a complaint with him.  The story said he wouldn't marry interacial couples because of the effect it can have on their children?  WOW!  Thats sad that he has such beliefs.  & What confuesed me the most is he said he isnt racist & he has many black friends?  Im lost.....

Setting aside the ridiculous racism in this... that man can't decide which marriages he thinks will succeed or not. People can say that short engagements/young marriages/late marriages/etc "don't tend to work out" but it's not necessarily true of everyone. and it's not up to you to determine the marriage's fate. Plenty of "intRAracial" marriages break up every day. *shakes head*

I read that story earlier this morning, and I was in total disbelief! I will say that I don't think people should be forced to do things in their jobs that are agianst their moral or ethical standards, so I don't know that I, myself, would have sued or anything, but it really bothers me that he would take that kind of "ethical" stand that is judging people on their skin color. To me, I don't think that is a valid reason to think that the realtionship won't last, or that they will be any less happy in their family.

I will add that in some cases, if your personal ethics keep you from doing your job fairly, then you should probably reassess your career...

Good addition to your previous comment.I don't think people should be forced to go against their religious beliefs, etc for their jobs either.BUTif you have a job with responsibilities like that- you can't take it upon yourself to make decisions like he did. It's not up to him.

If you can not do your job correctly then just give up and find a new one. I can not STAND when people can not do their jobs. People can be racist all they want in the privacy of their own homes but it is completely unfair to put a couple through that. He needs to find a new job.

Aww Bcnoelle... :) Don't feel bad.Unfortunately I think you can find racist people in any state, country, town, etc. Someone will always find something wrong with someone else. It's very sad.

I couldn't read it :(  anything that has that tinyurl thingy I can't ever read.  maybe I'm just challanged! but I can't believe someone would deny a couple a marriage license based on race.  I'm in a interracial relationship and I am appalled that happened.  I think I would have to flip out on someone if they denied us a marriage license because of our skin color!!!
