Cake..

FI & I picked out a cake & design a few months back..This was one area he was SUPER excited about and in making a decision of what flavors and designs we would have for the cake. I let him take the reigns on this one and he did a fabulous job. Thing is, the last few weeks, I've been contemplating the design he chose (a circular motif/pattern) While it's a whimsical, cute design, I have always wanted something a bit more formal/traditional like quilting or swirls. Me telling him how I feel about the design isn't an issue..The issue is I don't want him to feel like he did a "bad" job or picked out the wrong thing. Bottom line: Since he took so much pride in taking up the cake business, I don't want to steal his thunder or hurt his feelings. I've been trying to research ways of incorporating the two, but it looks a little weird. Any ideas/advice/suggestions?

Is a Groom's cake an option? Maybe having them both the same size, but smaller so the total amount would feed what you originally had planned for one cake? Does that make sense? Then he could design one cake and you could design the other. Just a thought...HTH!

GOod idea about the grooms cake...but if it is not in the budget...I would just let this one go...let him feel like he had a big part in the planning...just enjoy!

I would consider the grooms cake thing...but I LOVE the cake he picked out! It is so cute! You know him better than anyone so you know how he will feel if you tell him it is not what you want. My H would not care but everyone is different. My H was really upset when I told him I did not want him to wear all white so I gave in and I am so happy I did!

Thanks ladies :) You know, I won't tell him anything about the cake. He would be a little ticked but wouldn't say anything and tell me "whatever you want babe"..lOl It is JUST a cake and I am glad he's being a helpful FI that's excited about OUR wedding :)That's the most important part, right? :]

Aaaw I know how you feel. I would let this be his time to shine as well. If you absolutely hated the cake you would have told him the first time. But since you dont i am glad you arent saying anything. It is a very nice cake! i am sure others will be impressed when they hear he chose it too!

Ditto on what everyone else said! I think it is his moment to shine! I know if it was FI, he would be so excited that he would tell everyone that he is the one that picked out the cake. I feel like a groomscake would be like "honey your idea was nice...so we will make a small one, but my idea is better so let it be the actual cake". At the end of the day Vedika...you said it best! It is just a cake! If you can find ways to make it just flow with everything else (definitely the colors of it, and maybe add touches of bling or flowers" then i think you will have a happy medium.

I also had pictured something more traditional, but when we met with Heather, FI started pointing out all these really whimsical designs and was really excited about having "an awesome cake like no other wedding we've been to" so I let him take full reign on that and just gave a few suggestions. He was even adament about having sugar flowers added to it. Its amazing what the guys get excited about isn't it? lol
