What's our budget? As little as we feel is necessary lol But seriously, we never sat down and said we'll spend $X on this wedding. We just decided that we'd get the best deals we could, we wanted to DIY all the paper products, so that saved us money, but that we would spend what was necessary on the things that were important to us. So we spent more on the photographer than I thought we would, but we really like their style. We're providing our own wine, and were allowed to directly order the beers we want at cost from our venue's vendor, so that is going to save us a lot of money on the bar cost. My SIL is going to act as my day of coordinator. We're using a florist that worked to keep our costs down, and we're supplying our own candles (that I bought from another knottie). We splurged on custom M&Ms because we like them. So we're really just spending what we feel is appropriate and comfortable for us. We'll have been engaged for 2 years, and planning for about 18 months, so it also helps that we've spread out purchases over that time.

We're doing the same. No set budget, but we're going to try to get the best deals we can.As far as where I'm cutting back, basically everywhere except the venue. My uncles are doing the catering- They have many years experience in restaurant/catering business so they will do amazing! My sister is a photographer, so she's taking care of that part.I'm planning on making my own dress and having my Bridesmaids' dresses made by someone else. I'm also making the bridesmaids gifts and the flowers they will be wearing in their hair.I'm designing the invitations/programs/menu cards myself.I'm also not hiring a florist- for my centerpieces, I just want vases filled with white tulips and the bouquets to be peonies, so I can make those myself. I'm just going to buy loose flowers in bulk.I've also taken classes on cake decorating, so I thought about making the cake as well, but I decided that might be pushing it with the DIY projects so close to the wedding. :) It will probably come out way nicer if I leave that one to the professionals anyway.
  • Great tips ladies :O) Looking to not spend too much money on my wedding.... trying very hard to look for a resonable price venue.... but eveything seems to be booked in April :O(

April isn't really too bad in the wedding world.  A lot of people book a year out.  Try Fridays or Sundays if you are looking to save money and/or push the date up.  Also think of places that might seem a little less traditional but still be a great venue.

Cheryl, where are you doing your wedding? I was hoping to find someplace that would let us bring in our own wine/beer but that seems tough to come by.

both of our Dad's were military, so we're able to have it at the Shades of Green Resort at Walt Disney World. Its a hotel on Disney property, but its owned by the army and is for military personnel to use. We're really lucky to be able to have it there, not only because of the bar, but their prices are great, and since its a military facility, theres no tax. yay! Definitely made it worth it to us to have it there instead of here in South Florida. And we're huge Disney fans, so thats an added bonus of having the wedding at Disney without having to go through Disney Fairy Tale Weddings and their crazy expensive prices lol

pretty parula - I brought my own liquor too but I had to have a licensed bartender.  (I got married at LMEC and my caterer provided the bartender and all mixers and I brought the beer wine and liquor.  Caterer was John Michael Events)
