Venice, Italy - Hotels?

We are departing on a Med. cruise from Venice, and we wanted to spend a few days exploring the Italian city. Any hotel recommendations that are in good locations?

Thanks!

  • We took a cruise out of Venice last summer and stayed at the Molino Stucky Hilton.  It is across the water from St Marks Square, but they have their own private water taxi which makes regular trips and is very convenient.  It has a fantastic rooftop bar and pool and it is very easy to get to the cruise port from there.   The rooms are much larger than typical European hotel rooms as it is an old converted factory.  We used Hilton points for the room, but a lot of people got great rates using Priceline.
  • We traveled through Italy in December of '08.  In Venice we stayed at the Duodo Palace Hotel.  It was a nice hotel, with helpful staff, good location, and quiet area, but kind of pricey.  However, it was low season when we went and we also got a better deal by booking through Orbitz or Expedia (can't remember which one) rather than the hotel's official website.  Overall, I liked the hotel.  It was centrally located and within about a 5 minute walk from St. Mark's Square which was nice, but it was a little difficult to find the first time...but then again, it was dark when we arrived!  :-)  Here is the hotel's website in case you're interested http://www.duodopalacehotel.com but like I said, I definitely suggest browsing and booking through Orbitz, Expedia, or something similar to them to get the best deal.  Good luck!

Chica7484, we just recently returned from a tour of Italy with Gate 1 Travel. In Venice, we stayed at the Grand Hotel Principe and absolutely loved it! It was perfectly located on the Grand Canal. I would check it out. Have a great trip!
