HM - should we wait?

What's your opinion on waiting a few months after wedding for HM???  My wedding is in October - considering waiting until March for HM.  Advantages if we do this:  Better weather in DR at that time, stock away some wedding gift money to use for HM, using less time off from work, spending more time with family/friends after wedding (our wedding is in PA and we live in FL).
I originally said no when FI suggested this, but now the thought is kinda growing on me.  What do you all think???

Re: HM - should we wait?

  • I think all of the pro's of pushing it off are valid.  If you have a specific destination in mind, and your wedding season isn't the best time to travel there, I would 100% wait until the time is better for that location.
  • dh and  i went a month after our wedding, it was perfect for us.
but it dosent matter what i think about your HM-it's yours-do what you want.

  • I think it's a great idea.
  • I think all of your reasons are valid.  My only concern is why I didn't put mine off:  I'm the kind of person where if I wait I won't do it.  I hate taking time off of work and my wedding was the only time I felt I could "justify" it.  But I'm neuortic so take that as you will.

  • I think if it works best for you two, go for it!  We're delaying ours by about five months because of a cross-country move two weeks after our wedding... no time!!

  • My one bit of advice is to still do something short and sweet immediately following your wedding.  I'd hate to have to go right back to work hte Monday following my wedding!  We took a mini-moon to NYC (which was driving distance) for a few nights after our wedding.  We used hotel points so only had to pay for food and fun.  Then 6 months after our wedding we took a 10-night Caribbean cruise which was fabulous.  It gave us a lot more time to plan the HM and something to look forward to.
  • by the time we take our honeymoon, we'll be married 7 months...so although its pretty frustrating right now to wait that long...I dont see a problem with it. I wanted to make sure we had more than a week (I'm a teacher), and we got married at the tail end of a vacation...so we are waiting until the summer.

I also suggest doing something small right after.

  • Here would be my advice....book the honeymoon before your wedding.  If you don't, you may never go.

Delaying our honeymoon would not have been for us but I can see why some people want to do it.  Just make sure you actually take it!
  • I feel that waiting is a good idea if that is what you both want. And the doing something small after the wedding is a great idea.
