Honeymoon Cruise

Hello all!  My fiance REALLY wants to do a Cruise to the Bahamas for the Honeymoon.  I get really air sick when I fly and I sometimes get car sick on long trips.  I'm really nervous about a cruise.  He says I will be fine... Anyone else ever been on a cruise?  Did you get sea sick???

Re: Honeymoon Cruise

  • I've been on a cruise and did not get sick, but I don't get motion sickness either.  My sister-in-law, who DOES get car sick, got sick one day on the cruise because the ocean was pretty rocky that day.  Make sure you bring some dramamine with you if you decide to go!!!

  • I never felt sick on a cruise, but then again I don't get car sick or air sick either. I just get a tad woozy once in a while and I tell myself not to focus on it and then I'm fine (but that's in all situations.. boat... plane.. car..)

But good news! My FI who used to always feel sick on cruises did not feel sick at all on the cruise we just went on a few weeks ago. He had been on 5 cruises with his family in the past, but they all left out of New York or New Jersey which meant rough waters on the way down to the Caribbean. The cruise we just got back from was out of San Juan which means no long trip from up north. He never felt a thing and said it was amazing how you couldn't even tell you were on a boat. I had only been on one other cruise before this one and it was out of Miami and the way the boat felt was similar to this trip. So, I think as long as you leave out Florida or some where in the Caribbean and the ship isn't moving really fast to make up time you shouldn't even feel it. But make sure you pack dramamine and if you forget they have an infirmary onboard at the bottom of the ship that can supply motion sickness meds or that patch you can put behind your ear which supposely works miracles.

So don't worry about it, just make sure you take medicine before getting on the boat and take it daily if you think you may have a problem. I've heard that you have to take it before feeling sick, because once you feel sick it won't work. HTH! And have fun! Cruises are amazing!
  • I forgot to add that my parents sent my grandparents on an Alaskan cruise for their 50th wedding anniversary present and my grandmother is notorious for battling bad motion sickness. She just took drammamine and was fine for both the flight to get there and on the cruise. They had an amazing time and would like to do it again!
  • There are plenty of things to help you from getting sick on a cruise.  I get sea sick, but with all these tips, it really helps and I only get seasick when there are really high waves (like 20 ft.)

    - Book a cabin on the lowest deck in the middle.  You'll feel less motion.
    - Take ginger tablets, drink ginger ale/ginger tea, eat candied ginger.  All of these calm your stomach.
    - They have patches and wrist bands that help with seasickness.  Test the patch out beforehand though to make sure it doesn't make you sleepy.
  • I don't get sea, car, air or motion sickness so I can't personally attest to anything BUT my DH did get seasick on one of our cruises. I had purchased ginger gum which made him feel better immediately. dramamine (even the 'less drowsy' version)  makes you sleepy so if possible skip them.

  • I am just like you, I am extremely motion sick and it really stinks. My fiance' really wants to do a cruise too and I think it would be sort of fun because neither one of us have ever been on a cruise and I feel like it is sort of the best of both worlds for us! Anyway,  I went to the Dominican Republic last summer with my fiance' and we did a lot of boat trips and exersions. Before the trip I had a talk with my doctor and she prescribed me some motion sickness patches that were miracle workers. They are small and I wore mine behind my ear and it wasn't noticeable at all and they worked great. My mom is worse then I am and actually just got back from a 3 week cruise and she even hit some really bad waves and everything and was fine because of the patches. I would maybe talk to your doctor and see if you could try those. Just a thought! Good luck!
  • I get motion sick really easily. On my first cruise, I didn't get sea sick at all, but on our honeymoon, I got sick one day. The water was really rough, though. Everyone on the ship was talking about it, so I think that's really uncommon. Book a room toward the middle of the ship and bring some dramamine.
