ocean view or balcony??

Hey ladies!

My fiance and I are planning to go on a cruise for our honeymoon. I was looking into getting a room with an ocean view window or a suite with a balcony. Although the suite is a bit more pricey, I think i am leaning more towads that since it is a very special occassion;)

What do you ladies think? Have any of you experienced the ocean view or balcony suite on a cruise ship?? If so, how was the experience??

Thanks!

  • I say go for the suite with the balcony definately!

The balcony really does make a world of difference -- go for it! It is so nice to go out on the balcony when you are entering or leaving a port right from your room. You will love it!

  • I say whatever you can afford go for it. We booked a balcony stateroom and are so very excited. I can't wait.
  • I definitely recommend the balcony stateroom as well.
  • Thanks ladies!!!
  • Balcony all the way, it great to wake up in the morning while pulling into port.

  • Definitely a balcony! The oceanview room is the same as an inside room except with a small window and they're usually located on the lower part of the ship. Balcony rooms are located higher up in the ship and give you more room with a sitting area in the room. Plus it's so nice to have a private area to enjoy sitting outside, and we always ordered room service for breakfast and enjoyed it on our balcony as opposed to going to the over crowded buffet. HTH!
  • It's your honeymoon-- balcony!  You can save a little money buy what floor of the ship your room is on.  The higher up you go, the higher you'll pay.

In order to save we're booking our cruise in September (we're getting married in June).  It's not a true honeymoon, but if it saves us money and less crowds I'm all for it!  It's still a vacation!  :)  Just a thought!
  • DEFINITELY do the balcony. Seriously...you wont be disappointed.

Another thing to consider, book your cruise through a Travel Agent, but continue to watch the price. I went on a cruise with my Mom last year around Europe (she had never been out of the country and I had started to pay for a honeymoon for a guy I had gotten engaged to, then we split up, so I decided to treat my mom to a trip! What a great experience! I can't reccommend cruising enough!) and I booked through my TA to do a Royal Caribbean cruise. Every couple days or so I would check in to Royal Caribbean's website to see what the pricing was and compare it to the pricing I had paid (as I didn't pay in full, i just put my deposit down and had to pay it off by 2 months before the trip). I had originally booked for an inside room, but at one point the price dropped a little bit, so I was able to upgrade for a very small amount, so I upgraded to an oceanview (picture window). Then one day I checked and the price had dropped DRASTICALLY (the cruise was drawing closer so they will sometimes have a couple day sale to try and push rooms out so they have a full ship). Come to find out the price drop only lasted 2 days (!!!) but I caught it and I called my TA and was able to upgrade to a balcony room (for no extra cost) AND get $250 discounted off my trip (the price had dropped that much! amazing!). If you book it yourself then you pay all up front and if the price changes then you can't move or try and work out an upgrade. But if you book through a TA, you put a deposit down and while your airfare can't change, you can change your cruise itinerary up until about 2 months before the trip (that's what my TA was anyways. We had to have the full payment done about 2 months and 1 week before the trip). So it's definitely worth it in that aspect, and you may be able to get that balcony suite for a much cheaper cost then you think.

Sorry that was kind of long, but I hope that helps, and you should DEFINITELY go with the balcony if you can. Sitting out on the balcony watching the waves, or watching the sunset, is honestly one of the most memorable moments in my life. I honestly think about it all the time and can't wait to do it again! =]
  • Once you go balcony, you never go back!!!!!!   Laughing
