must eats in hawaii?

We are food enthusiasts and our honeymoon will be on Oahu and Maui.  So, with that in mind, where should we go for some must eats?  good local places??

Re: must eats in hawaii?

  • I've heard Mama's Fish House on Maui is amazing, but pricey.

  • Mama's Fish House was amazing.  They have great food and drinks and the atmosphere was beautiful.

  • Anywhere that serves conch.  Other than calamari, it's probably my favorite sea food.
  • I don't even think I remember seeing conch on a menu in Hawai'i!

On Oahu: check out Alan Wong's. We did the 5 course meal + wine pairings in August and it was amazing!

    On Oahu or Maui: Roy's

Maui: Sansei, Merriman's, the Lahaina Grill

  • We bought the book Top Maui Restaurants:  From Thrifty to Four Star on Amazon.  It was really detailed, and has fair and non-biased reviews from a couple who lives on Maui.  Based on their reviews and our tastes, here are the places we have picked to eat.

    Aloha Mixed Plate
    Ba-Le Sandwiches
    Cafe O'Lei
    Coconut's Fish Cafe
    Da Kitchen
Feast at Lele (instead of Old Lahina Luau, because they have better food)
    Hula Grill
    Kihei Caffe
    Koiso Sushi Bar
    Main Street Bistro
    Mama's Fish House
    Maui Masala
    Moana Bakery and Cafe
    Paia Fish Market
    Penguini Gelato
    Pita Paradise
Sansei Seafood Restaurant and Sushi Bar
    Ululani's Hawaiian Shave Ice
    Who Cut the Cheese

We are on a budget, so we only picked a few expensive restaurants.  The book advises to eat at the more expensive restaurants for lunch if you're on a budget.  They still offer many of the same dishes, just in smaller portions.

  • Mama's Fish house is a don't miss...you can't go to Maui and not eat there.

We also really enjoyed Hula Grill, I'o, Pacifico, Lahina Grill, and the Pioneer Inn for breakfast.  I also never saw Conch on any menu.
  • Ditto PP on Mama's Fish House.  We saved it for our final night.
We also loved Sonz at the Hyatt, and for a more relaxed night, Cool Cats Burgers in Lahaina.
On Oahu we loved Duke's in Waikiki at one of the Outriggers.
