Honeymoon suggestions-tropical beach

Hi. My fiance and I are trying to decide where to go for our honeymoon. We know that we want to go to a tropical island with a beautiful beach with blue water and white sand. My fiance would also like to do some activities, exploring, etc. We are looking for an all inclusive for the first week in August that isnt too long of a flight from Newark airport or NYC. Neither of us have ever been out of the country before so we would like some advice on where to go. Preferably somewhere where it is adults only also. And also probably less than $3300 for the flight and all inclusive. We went to a travel agent who suggested the Bahamas, Aruba, and the Riviera Maya in Mexico. We were also thinking of St. John or St. Thomas in the USVI. And I was wondering about Barbados. If anyone has any advice at all we would very much appreciate it. TIA.

  • We're going to the Riviera Maya, that very same week actually (that is, if my travel agent would ever call me back, argh...). I've talked to several people who have been there for their honeymoons and really enjoyed it. There are excursions you can do (cave tours, zip lines, scuba diving, etc.) as well as the Mayan ruins.

I've been talking to travel agents this week, so I know there are definitely all inclusive resorts for $3300 or less (including airfare), ours is around $2200. I'm pretty sure there were some nice adults only resorts for around $3000.

    Good luck with your decision!
  • we are going to a Sandals (2011) but are going to do the Riviera Maya this summer.  One of the knotties on here recommended Jennifer at VIP Vacations and in no time I got a quote back.  We are going for under 3k.
Count down to my summer vacation is under way!
Ever think you'd feel this way?
  • I used Jennifer at VIP and booked an AI for adults only one month after you for less than $3000 in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.  We chose this location because of all of the reasons abbycobb listed--lots of adventures (and history!) as well as beautiful beaches.  I have been a few times and always have a great time.  With that said, all of the places you listed sound really wonderful and I am sure you would enjoy any of them.  Price wise though, I think Mexico might be your best bet.  Try emailing Jennifer at VIP travel and tell her what you are interested in, the dates you would travel, and your budget and see what she recommends.  It is free to work with her.  Good luck!
  • We are going to Riviera Maya, Mexico July 26th-August 2nd. We are staying at The Secrets Moroma all-inclusive resort. It is adult only and has EXCELLENT reviews on tripadvisor, com. It looks beautiful and there are also a lot of activities you can do there too. However, I've heard there are a lot of all-inclusive resorts that are great in that area, we just picked this one because it was adult only saw the very good reviews. good luck in your decisioN!
  • St John is my absolute favorite island, but you won't find any AIs there.  The Riviera Maya area, as PPs have mentioned, has a lot of AI, adults-only options.  Some to look into are Secrets Maroma, the Royal Playa del Carmen, Excellence Playa Mujeres.  There are some great AIs in the Cancun area as well- LeBlanc, Sun Palace, the Royal Cancun.

I also know that Secrets is opening two new AI, Adults-Only resorts in Jamaica.  I've never stayed at a Secrets, but the pictures look really nice.  I believe they open next week.

I haven't been but my best friend honeymooned there and loved it. I'm pretty sure they stayed at St. James Club. It wasn't AI but they said there weren't too many people there so it didn't bother them.

There are some other really nice looking resorts on Trip Advisor.

  • I would definitely lean toward the Riviera Maya in Mexico. It’s absolutely beautiful and in my opinion perfect for a honeymoon. One resort you may enjoy is Secrets Silversands. Secrets Silversands is an adult’s only all-inclusive located on a beautiful beach. The resort boasts five restaurants and bars as well as service that is top notch. I was actually very impressed with the food; it was one of the best I have ever had at an AI. Besides spending time on the beach, I also loved sitting poolside with a fruity cocktail. My favorite was the Mango Tango! Be sure to try it if you choose to honeymoon at Secrets. I hope this helps. Good luck with your decision!
