Outdoor Weddings

aisle runner for uneven, dirt and grass wedding that has wind- HELP!

Hello fellow brides, I really need your help!

The Situation:
I'm having an outdoor ceremony at the Mendocino Botanical Gardens, up in Mendocino, CA and the wedding itself will be taking place outside, along the costal bluffs. This means uneven terrain consisting of grass and lots of dirt. Because the area is so vast, I'm hiding out in a little shack (The Cliff House) so nobody can see me before my grand entrance...this area is 1/4 mile away.

Why I need your help:
I don't want to get my dress dirty and was considering an aisle runner

The problems:
1. Will a runner even work with such an uneven terrain? If so, do you have a suggested material and way to stake it down? (the site is super windy).
2. How long do I get the runner? Do I get it from my hiding spot to the ceremony and if not...who do I get to help me carry m y dress? If I get a bridesmaid she won't be able to walk down the aisle first as part of the prelude. If I get a runner from my hiding spot to the ceremony...because it's such a vast area I would be afriad somebody else would step on it.
3. I don't want the aisle to get dirty with the wedding party walking down it first. Help? What do I do here? Booties?
4. The area is windy...so how should I put the runner down? Do I put it down right before I walk out or have somebody use tent stakes a few hours before.

Thanks for your help...I have no idea what to do!
