How do I bring my dress to my destination wedding??

I'm getting married in Jamaica and I'm freaking out about how to bring it!  Any ideas for options on how to get it there????

  • Bring it on the plane with you. I've heard the flight attendants will store it for you. I would make sure there is a steamer available somewhere at your hotel or venue just in case.
  • Thanks!

  • It depends on the size of plane that you are taking also.  If there is no closet on there or if is wintertime and the flight attendants' coats are in it, there might not be a place on board to put it.  To get my dress from Cincinnati to Philadelphia, i rolled it up in tissue paper and put it in a carry on.  It was the only thing that could fit in there but that's what it took.

  • I carried mine on.  When we were waiting in the terminal, I had it draped over a chair in the cloth bag it came in, but when we were walking, I rolled it into a soft duffle bag to protect it from weather & dirt.  Flight attendants immediately took it from me and hung it in the taller captain's closet up front.

Another gal on the DW forums vacuum packed her bag and had it steamed on island.  It may not work for every gown (especially if you have non-crushable embellishments) but it was flawless on hers.

  • I carried mine on too. They didn't count it as an extra item either.
The closet they put it in was a really short one.. like to hold blazers. They had to really stuff it in there. Luckily, it was made of a pretty wrinkle resistant fabric.

  • I carried mine on the plane and stowed it in the overhead compartment.  Sometimes the flight attendants will stow in their closets but often times they can't because it's too crowded, which was the situation in my case.  There was just no room in the closet.

It depends how big your dress is...you can either hang it in the garment bag and stow it in the overhead compartment OR carefully pack it in a carry on in a small suitcase.

Are you getting married in a resort or do you have a wedding planner in Jamaica?  They should be able to press the dress for you to smooth out any wrinkles it encounters during travel.  My resort pressed my dress for me and it looked gorgeous and brand new.

Don't freak out, it'll be fine:)  Good luck!
