am i crazy for doing an outdoor wedding in JANUARY?

I'm getting married 1/1/11. We have both been married before so we just want something small and intimate. And we were going to do it in my mom's back yard, when it was originally planned for Sept. Thanks to his ex putting off signing the papers for ages (it's been 2 1/2 years!) we have had to push it back and we figured what better day than a fresh start to a new year! My mom's backyard is beautiful and overlooks a canyon. But am i crazy for even considering doing it outside when there's no place to change it to inside?

  • Honestly, as a guest, I'd be seriously pissed and would leave soon.
  • I don't think it would be that bad, just pray the weather is decent and get a few space heaters, if the guests know it will be outside, they'll know how to dress, and yes, make it short and sweet, have a plan and stick to it and you should be fine

Sorry, I'm from central OK, and I can't imagine having an outdoor wedding in January! Not only will it be freezing, but there's no way to be sure that there won't be snow or ice on the ground. Not to mention that Oklahoma is windy enough already, and will be especially windy beside a canyon. No one is to tell you you can't have your dream wedding, but you should really think about the comfort of your guests no matter where or when you have it.

  • It toatally depends on your area and your guests.
People know how to dress. If they know it is outside and what the weather will be, they won't show up in sundrsses.
Will you have the reception indoors?

We're in Alaska and wanted to do a winter wedding because that's the best time for photos, and we love snow. All our Alaskan friends and family were excited with the idea, but the out of town people said no way.

We changed it to July and honestly I really regret this. The weather now is cold, gray, and wet...and several of our out of town guests still can't show, and because it's on the holiday weekend, some of our local friends can no longer come either!
