Has anyone been to Belize???

So we are thinking about honeymooning in Belize. None of our friends or relatives have been there so I thought I'de see if anyone on here has any advice on places to stay & if April is a good time to go? I've researched a few websites already I just want some opinions from someone who has been there.
Thanx=)

  • I have been there- you can look at the responses on this post asking the same thing five spots down:

    April is the beginning of rainy season in Belize, but it should still be a nice time to visit, although this will vary depending on where in the country you plan to go.

    Vacation
  • We went for 9 days for a trip the first week of June last year.  The weather was HOT but great.  Rainy season is a relief to get a shower every now and then...you'll need it...but we had plenty of sun.  We combined the best of both worlds.  Ambergris Caye is the way to go for the beach part of the vacation.  Check out Victoria House, as it's a fantastic hotel and is only a 10min walk down the beach to get into town, where you can find culture, restaurants and nightlife.  The other half of the trip we wanted to stay in the jungle and experience the Mayan Culture.  We stayed at one of the Francis Ford Coppola resorts and I'll tell you, it's worth every penny.  It's top notch service, with gorgeous accomodations.  You basically have your own luxury hut in the middle of the jungle/rainforest. We stayed at Blancaneaux, but there is also Turtle Inn near Placencia or another option in Guatemala that is supposed to be amazing also.  They arrange any day trips for you and their guides take you personally so you don't have to worry about safety, etc.  It's worth to splurge for at least three nights at Blancaneaux and then head to Ambergris Caye where things are more affordable.  We'd go back in a heartbeat.

    If you go to Ambergris Caye you'll HAVE to charter a fishing boat even if you only like eating fish!  We met another couple and went out for a day and did snorkeling and fishing and even conch diving.  Then came back to shore after the day where our fisherman prepared fresh ceviche and cooked fish on the grill.  One of the best days and meals I've had...and the day only cost each person $75.

    If you have any other questions, contact me. I'd be happy to share more detail!  karijo88@gmail.com
