Which part of the Caribbean?

My fiance and I are planning a cruise for our honeymoon. We've been on a Western (Haiti, Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Mexico) and loved it (that's where he proposed!). But we aren't sure if we want to do Eastern or Southern for our honeymoon.

Does anyone have any experience with the Eastern or Southern Caribbean? What would you recommend?

Re: Which part of the Caribbean?

  • I just got back from a Southern Caribbean cruise this past week and we had an AMAZING time! FI had done several Eastern cruises with his family before and I had done the Western one (the one you said you guys were engaged on actually!) and we thought the Southern one was beyond incredible compared to the ones we had already been on. We left out of San Juan and stopped in Aruba, Curacao, Dominica, and St. Thomas. We flew in a day early and spent the night in Puerto Rico which was nice plus we didn't have to worry about missing the ship because of flight issues (that actually happened to friends of ours a few months ago who took the same exact cruise and loved it! But they had to pick it up in Aruba after missing a connecting flight) My aunt and uncle also did this cruise and have already re-booked it with the other itinerary the ship does every other week so they can do both itineraries in a row because they loved it so much. The other itinerary is also out of Puerto Rico (on the same ship) and it stops in Barbados, St. Lucia, Antigua, St. Maarten, and St. Croix. These itineraries are on Royal Caribbean's Adventure of the Seas. But Princess also has similar itineraries out of San Juan. HTH! No matter which ship or itinerary you choose.. the Southern Caribbean is incredible and you can't go wrong! ;0)

  • Southern Caribbean hands down!  Much more exotic itineraries.  Look at Princess - they have some of the best itineraries out there.
  • i've done the eastern a few times and prefer it over the western. i haven't done the southern but have always wanted to.

oasis of the seas sets sail on saturday!!

  • My FMIL, a total cruise junkie, told me that St. Lucia is her favorite island. Hands down. According to her (and she's pretty knowledgeable) the southern Caribbean is the way to go.
  • I didn't like the Eastern Caribbean cruise at all, so I'd go with Southern.
  • Thanks ladies!

My finace seems to really want to sail on the Oasis (he proposed on the Freedom) but the Oasis is only doing Eastern and Western isn't it? I get motion sick so we want to stick with a big ship nothing smalled than Voyager class probably (we really like RC so we'll probably stick with them).
  • I hear you on the size of the ship! FI used to always feel sick on cruises, but the last one we went on (the Southern itinerary) he never felt a thing. We were on RC Adventure of the Seas. Obviously not as big as the Oasis but definitely one of their bigger ships. He laughed every time I said I thought I felt the ship move because to him it was "nothing" compared to what he used to feel when on cruises with his family.

Definitely come back with pictures and reviews if you guys go on the Oasis! That ship looks amazing! Norwegian is coming out with one that's supposed to be comparable called The Epic.
