San Juan, PR - pre-honeymoon?

An option is for us to cruise out of San Juan, PR - so I was thinking about staying there 3 days before the ship leaves and enjoy a resort for a couple of days.Any recommendations as to whether we should do this...or whether it's an awesome place to go before the cruise? Should we do all-inclusive here?If you ladies don't think so, we can always sail out of Miami/Ft. Laud

I think it's a great idea (I'm a little biased though since I am from there and going there for my honeymoon!). Check out the Sheraton Old San Juan or the Normandie. Both are in great areas and close to where the cruise ships leave from. If you want to go a little further then check out the Caribe Hilton, El San Juan Hotel and Casino, El Conquistador, La Concha, The W in Vieques Island, or the Intercontinental.

If you have time you could check out El Yunque (the rainforest) if you have a rental car or I'm sure there are tour buses that go there. Old San Juan is a great area to walk around- lots of shops, restaurants, bars...this place called El Patio de Sam (Sam's Patio) has been around forever (my parents use to go there when they were dating) and has great ambiance. There is also the bioluminescent bay- it's a night time kayak tour and the water glows all sorts of funky colors...very awesome.

My parents cruised out of there a couple of years ago and they loved that cruise!!!  This summer, they ended up in PR by accident as their flight to DR was delayed, etc. and their one night there was great.  They already said, that's their trip next summer.  They hadn't been around the island in years (probably since they were pregnant with me) so they loved their accidental one day in PR but it wasn't enough.I would say it's a good choice for sure.  :)
