Has anyone been to Portugal?

We were thinking of going to Italy, but FI's dad is trying to talk us into going to Portugal or Spain instead, because you can get more for your money, so he says.
His family wanted to do a family trip to Italy, in a few years.

If you have gone to Portugal, how much did it roughly cost, how long did you stay, did you cruise, where did you stay?

I would ask this on TN's Travel board b/c a number of ladies seem to have been...actually they raved about it so much that we were considering Lisbon, Sintra, and Porto ourselves for a few days this April.

I went to Spain and Portugal for my honeymoon in September and Italy for vacation in December. Iberia is WAY cheaper than Italy. We got apartments for like $75 a night in Madrid and Lisbon, but ended up paying about $125 a night for places in Italy. The apartments in Iberia were nicer and better located as well. Overall I think the food was cheaper and so were museums. 

We did 4 days in Madrid, with one day trip to Toledo, and three days in Lisbon with one day trip to Sintra. If I could do it again I would probably spend more time in Portugal. We really loved it there and will probably go back eventually. My sig pic is from the Torre de Belem in Lisbon.

I went to both Spain and Portugal on tour with an orchestra and loved both places.  Because it was tour with over 50 people I know we received a discount so I'm not sure if I can help there.
