Hair & MU Vendor Rave: Lutz @ OM Beauty

I had a hair and makeup trial yesterday with Lutz from Om Beauty Salon and I just want to say thank you to everyone who recommended him. He's amazing! After a not so hot trial with Amy Palma, I was really really nervous for this trial but I went in with pics from my bad trial as well as some inspiration pics requesting a more natural, glowy look.Well, he gave it to me and I think it was perfect! The makeup looked really nice and pretty natural (well as natural as can be when doing that kind of makeup) He highlighted all the right areas of my face and did the foundation and everything so light that I didn't feel like I was wearing any makeup at all! I love what he did to my eyes... he really made them "POP"! I loved loved loved how my eyes turned out.I don't know that I love that lipstick color and I told him I might want to play around with other colors for that but overall I was very happy with how it turned out.Just in the way he applied the makeup to my face, I could tell he was an artist and really knew what he was doing. He was such a perfectionist about it too... I just loved him so much! Worth every penny and then some. And he's actually going to be a bit less $$ than Amy Palma too which is a bonus! The hair  turned out great too. To my surprise, he got my hair to hold the curl!,I still have waves in it TODAY!! The actual HAIR do itself DID start to fall pretty quickly so I am going to need to talk to him about that so we can secure it better and make sure it holds up.. but I'm  honestly not worried. I trust this man. He knows what he is doing and he's a true professional! He will make it perfect the day of the wedding! Anyone considering hair and makeup, I can't recommend him enough! He's incredible...Here are some pics from the trial... http://i873.photobucket.com/albums/ab292/YHFoxy/DSCF9807.jpghttp://i873.photobucket.com/albums/ab292/YHFoxy/DSCF9816.jpghttp://i873.photobucket.com/albums/ab292/YHFoxy/DSCF9813.jpghttp://i873.photobucket.com/albums/ab292/YHFoxy/DSCF9815.jpghttp://i873.photobucket.com/albums/ab292/YHFoxy/DSCF9832.jpg

My last trial was just a disaster. It just didn't look good at all. She went waaay to heavy on the makeup, she did a really horrible hair do and the curls fell out in like 10 minutes (no joke) and I left there in tears and had to go take my epics right after that so I was really bummed out. Luckily the epics still turned out great! That said, I've seen Amy's work for other brides and it has always been gorgeous so I must be the only one.Lutz charges by the hour. $150 an hour IF he comes to you, cheaper if it's in the salon. He said it will take 2 hours and he isn't going to charge me if it goes a lil over that so it will be $300 for the day of. I believe Amy was $350 for the day of.

Jamie, so you also paid about $300 for the trial?Did you go somewhere sexy with that makeup? OH! You went to Alissa's shower with that stunning hair and makeup?   : DAlissa is so sweet, I love her

You're crazy. It does look sexy and pretty. Your hair does look romantic... but I'm not exactly sure what a sophisticated look would look like... but the half up half down is you and is what you wanted :)Yes, your makeup looks sexy. I really love the eyes and I love the highlighting under the eyes and on the brow bone. I'm a makeup junkie (obviously) : )I sent my email late. I mistakenly sent it to myself instead of you so by the time I realized, we had already spoken on TK.  LOL Wow, moron time.

BTW - do you have a pic in your dress that you can email me?

I looove Lutz! I go to Om to get my haircut 3 times a year and I always see him doing fabulous Job. Amy Palma is actually $395 for the day of. You look beautiful!
  • edited December 2011
    Wow, Amy/Ana is expensive - $395   : /

I dd'd b/c It sounded like I was fishing for compliments and that was DEFINITELY not the case. The trial was $150. They charge for each service so I had a blow out and then a hair style and makeup application and It came to $150.If I hadn't had the blow out it would have been less. Yes, I went to the shower and bach party with the hair and makeup so when those pics come out you can see how the hair fell and stuff... but no biggie... I also stopped to try on my dress on that just came in so I could see it all together. Sadly my dress didn't fit, but I kind of expected that and it's almost there so I just have to lose another 5-10lbs and I should be good to go.I can send you a pic of me in the dress but it didn't come out too well and the dress didnt' close all the way so yeah.. not so hot!

Looks fabulous!!!I'm totally loving your hair.  :)  And the make-up looks light and fresh.  Simple elegance.

Thanks guys. The curls held through the whole night. They fell much looser of course BUT the fact that they held at all was like a miracle b/c I have thermally reconditioned hair which means it is permanently straigthtened which makes it hard to hold a curl. SO... I didn't think it would hold at all. I was shocked! I stil lhave light waves today!!!

    What is thermally reconditioned hair?

Thermally recon is "Japanese straightening" treatment. It means that your hair is super straight, even throughout humidity. It's smooth, shiny and super straight. I think you have to do it like once every 6months-1 year b/c your hair will grow out in the midst. It's great for people that don't want to have to treat and blow dry their hair all the time.
  • edited December 2011
ohhh is that like the Keratin Hair Treatment? I was thinking about getting that done.... the humidity here my hair all nasty!!

The Japanese Thermal and THe Brazillian Keratin are different. One is permanent (Jap) one is Not (Brazillian)The Keratin is more to combat frizz and lasts just a few months where as the Japanese is permanent. You just have to redo it for the new hair that grows in.Because my hair grows super slow, I get it done only ONCE a year. I had it done last November and have a few inches of growth now and I am supposed to go back in 2 weeks but Lutz advised against it. He said he thinks I should wait until after the wedding because if I have it redone my hair will be soooo stick straight at the roots that he won't be able to get any volume or lift and it will be much harder to style.I'm considering taking his advise but my hair is soooo frizzy at the roots right now and so curly at the hairline, that when I sweat it gets all icky. And I am a SWEATER. I'm dying to have my TR redone... and I wanted it to be perfectly straight on the Honeymoon but I may take his advice and wait for the sake of my wedding day hair. So unsure on this...

Ahhh ok! Well I want to be able to make my hair wavy or straight, so I guess the best solution for me is the Keratin. Will a flat iron not work for you for the honeymoon?

Yeah, The Keratin is probably better for you if you don't want pin straight hair at all times! I think the flat iron will be my only option if I decide to not redo the thermal. I'm going to talk to my stylist this week about what he thinks... maybe I'll try the keratin treatment b/c Lutz said he can still get volume if I do that one...
