Hey! I'm a New Knottie!!

Hi everyone, I recently became engaged and just wanted to introduce myself. I've been surfing this site for a couple of days and decided to say HELLO!!!My name is Michelle and so far all me and my future hubby (Michael) have decided on is a date. 9-10-11. Undecided on indoor, outdoor wedding, small or large. Wedding Planner or not, so many decisions and this is just the beginning. I've noticed that a lot of you girls are using a day of coordinator instead of a wedding planner?  Anyone have any recommendations on whats better and maybe pricing. I really didn't think I would need one, but from what I see here it's seems important. Well thats it for now, I have a long road ahead of me. Michy.

    Welcome! Happy Planning.I am not getting a DOC either.  I have my sister who will take care of everything and I have a great lady at my venue!Anyway, welcome!

    Hey Michy!Welcome and congrats on the date check. I hired Karla Blanco for DOC and it has put me at ease knowing she's in charge for the day of. But even now she's been super helpful.I couldn't afford a planner for the entire event, but that's ok because I feel that with the girls on the knot you can really do nearly everything on your own.We're here to help so ask away :)

    congrats and happy planning! :) i'm not having a DOC or wedding planner, i'm resting it all on my family, but it's really personal preference. the girls here are a huge help.

    Hi there! Welcome to the board.  I hired a wedding planner after we picked our venue. I think it kind of depends on your venue, some places have someone who will act as a DOC and others (like mine) do not have anyone to help coordinate set-up, timing, move guests from cocktail into the reception and do all those little extra things.  Also, a lot of venues have preferred vendor lists, mine did not so I was completely overwhelmed at where to start.  As I see it, if I went to a vendor they may or may not give me a good price - they see me as a one time shot - BUT if they give my planner a good deal and deliver as promised, then she is more likely to steer more business their way. Again, I think it is a personal choice, I tend to stress out a lot and having a planner makes me feel better that it is her responsibility to keep track of everything. Something to think about if you are looking into a planner. Find one who charges a flat fee, not a percentage of your budget and make sure they are good about helping you stick to your budget they  have so many good ideas, it is easy to get carried away!(BTW my planner has done a great job so far, and kept us pretty close to our original budget)

    congrats & welcome!!! Some venues include a doc as part of their package so I'd say wait until you book your venue first :) There is a newer DOC who starts at $99 and I have seen them go from $500 to $1500 for day of coordination.

    Hi Michy! Congrats and welcome to the boards!! The biggest bit of advice I can give you is plan early! You can lock in lower rates a lot of times with the big vendors as their prices change from year to year (florist, photographer, etc). As far as a planner, wait until you book your venue. Some venues have planning servies or just day of coordinators (DOC). The girls on this board are wonderful! Happy planning!!

    TTC since May 2011 "Natural" BFP 1/2/2012 with cp 1/5/2012 5/2012: SA and CD 3 bloodwork perfect 6/2012: Clomid + Trigger + TI = BFN 8/2012: HSG all clear.     Thanks to all of you...I will wait to see where I choose to do the reception, my friend who recently got married told me that she'd help me anyway, so hopefully that would be one less expense.And yes M&M's will definetly be part of my wedding LOL! I've been hearing that from all our friends for a long time. :-)

    Hi Michy! Welcome to the board.. I'm kinda late. Like everyone said.. once the venue is picked, things start falling into place. I'm glad I'm not the only 2011 bride on here anymore! Did u go to the bridal show today?

    Yes I did go, I got an overload of information...well let me clarify, an overload of photographer information, there were so many there LOL!  You would think they would only have maybe 2...i think I saw 7.  I saw a lot of unique things too, my FI didn't go with me, I would've made him get on that dance floor quick.
