Photog. Vent (Album)

Ugh, I was avoiding to post about this. Well, my photog said that my album preview was available online. Well, I looked at it and loved it at first glanced. Then, Vicki raved about her album preview and I wanted to do some comparisons. Vicki's is great! Basically I felt that her photog used the space in the album perfectly and that it was a very clean look. I don't really care for slanted pictures and a bunch of overlapping. So, I went page by page on how I want the layout to be. Well, I think I offended him. He basically said that the preview was for tweeking and not meant to be completely rearranged. That everyday people don't have the design knowledge. And that it would cost $$$. That set me off. I explained that that's what I paid for. He's done the changes I wanted. And yes it looks better. But now things are weird. I mean isn't this a process coming up with the design of all the pages? Just getting frustrated. AVM - I know you're using him. Honestly, I loved my pics and we're just hitting a snag, but it is a big problem since it's my final product.

time to look at vicki's pics....... I Hope everything works out. Pictures are the only thing from the whole wedding that we can hold on to forever.

Well it's still not finalized. I'm very happy with the pictures, it's just this process. I wish he wasn't so uptight about it.

Ugh that's so frustrating. Sometimes "artists:" think they can do no wrong and their way is the only way. BUT YOU ARE THE CLIENT and if you want it a different way, he should respect that. If you don't love what he did, you should have the right to change it. I think slanted photos and all that is distracting and takes away fromt he elegance of the photos! IN the end, so long as you get what you want, that's all that matters. Even if he is a little bit offended. He'll get over it!

that sucks! artists tend to be crazy about their art but in the end, it should be what you want. it's your wedding and your pictures. don't let this get you down.

i will say, that there's a photographer i'm looking at, where in her contract she says that you can only make up to i think 10 changes, and then each change costs $15, and that she has "artistic license" or something to say no, and she designes the album. so I would go back and look in your contract. while it's frustrating, the album he put together for you is probably similar to his other albums, which you should have looked at before signing a contract. and i don't mean to play "devil's advocate" or go against what you're saying, you ARE the client, and it is what YOU want, but you chose his style. and if he made all of the changes you want, I'm not sure what this post is about, other than being annoyed by the fact that you probably missed a part in the contract or didn't look at his albums, or something. i REALLY don't want to come across as mean or rude or anything, but look at the other side of it. you probably did offend him. he thought you chose him because you liked what he did. and maybe you do like your photos, but his design elements are part of his style. just something to think about.

Its a good thing you said something since you're the one paying! I would get really frustrated too if it wasnt what I wanted. In the end, you'll get what you want and even if it is awkward now, he'll get past it.

AHHH nervous!!! :(  Yeah, I did get the feeling he likes things "his way"...we are meeting with him over XMAS one last time before the wedding and to chose our album style, so I'll make sure to be very clear about how I want things, so thanks for the heads up!!!

Eskiimobby - I understand what your saying. First, this post is a vent. That is why I put vent. His contract is not very detailed at all. I did not get the impression from him that he would be so picky. I like his style and his sense of humor. In regards to the album design... Of course I looked at his albums and I was pleased. But, he is not a carbon copy of his previous albums. He makes each wedding unique. Atleast I think so. So if I tell him I do not want them overlapping and that I felt there was a lot of negative space on a page, I don't think that's an insult on his work or goes against what I had signed him for. I also wrote this post so girls are aware of what to expect when it comes time for the actual album. So many times we pick just on pictures. WHICH IS THE MOST IMPORTANT, but we can't neglect the actual album.

i wasn't at all trying to say you're wrong, and i totally see where you're coming from. i only brought up the contract because it was in a contract i was looking at, and it is totally turning me away from that person. you SHOULD get what you want, you are paying for it, and it is your wedding album. i hope everything works out! it sounds like things are in the process of going your way though. sorry if i came across the wrong way.
