Need help from cat owners!

So I've been using the littermaid for a while now but it recently died. So we decided to just go with the regular box.. but this one has a cover. I thought it would be great, the boys would have their privacy and it would keep the stench in. WRONGGGG! Well the boys DO love it! But it smells HORRIBLE... even worse! I feel like if I keep it uncovered it would be better! And we clean it everyday!!! I feel like the stink has become part of the plastic!!

So my question is... what kind of box do u use? And what litter?

I use Fresh Scoop? or Fresh Step?  Fresh something litter.  It seems to work for the most part.  I just have a regular litter box with a top but I took the top off recently because I read that it's bad for the cats respiratory system (if you use clay-based litter) like what I use.  I clean the box everyday too, and I can still smell it usually.  I hate it.

I am sneezing just reading this post.  Good luck finding a solution, Lynette.

Unfortunately the litterbox is in my office and the entire room WREAKS!!! It's sooo disgusting! I'm wondering if I should go with a metal box?

And I tried that new litter where it not only neutralizes pee odor but now poo odor... yeaaaaaaa it doesn't work! We were using Scoop Away before that. I think we're gonna go back to it.

We also use Tidy Cat and the lid on the box. There is a mesh thing on the top of mine and we wrapped it in dryer sheets and its been working.

We use fresh step for multiple cats and we bought a plain rubbermaid cat box. It works really well. But our oldest cat has a habit of not covering her poop, so you can smell that. But beside her yucky habit it works really well.

This post is exactly why it is my FI's job to clean the litter box! I think we use the Fresh one for multiple cats (but since I refuse to clean it, I really can't remember!) We just have a regular plastic one. We have used one with a top, but the smell is so lethal when we take off the top that I felt bad for making them even go in it! We have to keep it upstairs so the dogs don't dine out of it (sick, I know...I swear they think it is a cookie jar or something) so I don't usually have to go near it, but he makes a good effort to clean it every day so it isn't so bad :)

We use a plastic box too, no topper. I buy Tidy Cats also and switch up between 24/7 performance, instant action, and multiple cats (only because I'm weird, they all work about the same but I just feel that it should be one kind that has 24/7 performance that works instantly for multiple cats lol)
I clean mine every day or every other day. I also keep 1 or 2 of those Odor Neutralizing air refreshners nearby.
