Cocktail Hour?

So 2 pieces to this puzzle:

1 What is everyone doing for cocktails? Decorations -- No Decor? Music -- No music? Tables -- No tables? etc.

2. I'm Cuban and dominoes are big in our culture.  I was wondering if its weird/tacky/cute/dumb to set up 4 domino tables for people to play?

I'll be having an open bar by the pool. I am having little CP's on the cocktail tables, probably will be just a small bowl with a floating candle. So yes we will be having tables. Just 7 tables for about 80pp. I am having my DJ set up a portable DJ booth for my cocktail hour.

I say go for it, if you think people would actually play with them.

I think the dominoes are a cute idea! As far as my cocktail hour, we aren't having decor or tables. From my ceremony site to my reception site, it's an 8 minute leisurely walk. The guests will be walking by drink stations as well as come to passed apps along their walk. Music will be piped in via the zoo. Our cocktail hour will happen mainly in the Mayan Temple area (see siggy) and that place needs no decorations! Haha. If you're going to set up dominoes, you'll need tables, clearly. I don't think CPs for the tables are necessary but if you've got $ to spare, then go for it. I think light background music would be nice and appropriate.

We saved about 1,000 making it a cocktail half hour so I won't be having music - seemed silly for only 30 minutes. The area of the reception hall the cocktail hour is in is already decorated with pretty tables and some chairs as well as other cool things so I won't add much - they offer candles for the tables I believe. It will also be open bar with five passed appetizers I think the domino idea is really cute - I honestly usually get bored at cocktail hours so it will be a great way for ppl to entertain themselves!

We are also doing a cocktail "half hour" and music is supplied by the venue (we're using their North bar in the restaurant). The bar area has a few high top tables and I will most likely put small centerpieces on both the bar and tables.

Not tacky, I think it's cute and has meaning... If they play they play and if they don't they don't, but it is nice to have the option..

Our cocktail hour is at the (meal) reception site, so it will be decorated. We're having music, but it's just coming from an MP3 player. I think that if you think your friends/families will play, go ahead with the dominoes. The worst case scenario would be that they don't play, which really isn't all that bad!

As far as decoration is concerned we're having the DJ play some music but I'm going to request just jazz and soft rock. We're also going to have some cocktail tables set up for people to set their drinks on and eat on. The area already has lighting on the palm trees so I wasn't planning on do any other lights.

We're also talking about having some parrots set up so people could get some pics with them and maybe hold them being at Jungle Island and all.

Domino's sound super fun! My FI is from the Bahamas and they are big into Dominos too but they get really into it and sometimes are very loud. I'm not sure how my side of the family would react to it seeing as we're very American and don't get into Dominos like that. Also, keep in mind if you do have Domino games you'll have to have shorter tables w/ chairs so people could sit. Maybe give Domino's as favors rather than having them play them at the cocktail hour? Just a suggestion, because we were thinking about that.

Our cocktail hour is right outside of our ceremony area.  We are having a steel drum playet for music.  We're also having about 6 cocktail height tables with no chairs for people to stand at.  There are also some patio tables nearby that people can sit at if they like.  For decor we are just having tiny fishbowls with a floating flower inside and 2 tealights on the tables.  I'm not sure yet if we are going to decorate the bar.

I love the idea of setting up domino tables, that's really cute!

I'm having my DJ play cocktail hour. My cocktail hour is at the pool on the beach, so I don't really need/want to dress it up too much. The venue provides cocktail tables and and regular tables with large blue umbrella's(pic below). We are placing 8 floating lanterns in the pool and maybe a few sea shells. Keeping it simple

As of now we have a saxaphone player for cocktail hour with high boy tables and white lounge furniture. Simple and nice. I will probably have super small centerpieces on the high boy tables... super small.

And I love the idea of the domino tables. I think it is a very cute touch since you are Cuban

Light decor on tables, Music from iPod. I will have tables just not sure how many or how to even set up yet as I will have 150 people at my wedding.

I think this is a great idea, especially if you think people will play. I was actually considering having Loteria at mine, as that is big in my Mexican-American family, but my FI's family is Irish and Scottish so I might nix it, not sure yet.

We're both Cuban too and I know our families and friends would love it! However I can so see it getting loud haha and not so sure that's the vibe I want alongside soft music, BUT thats just my opinion since I know how loud our families get. I still think it's a cute touch, maybe for the rehearsal dinner? About decor/music I will have some high boys, maybe some low tables decorated with a simple floating flower/ candle centerpiece and maybe white lounge furniture. The DJ plays during cocktail hour. :)
