NWR, but I wanted to share anyways! (kinda long)

This is totally NWR, but I wanted to share some information to make you ladies aware. If you have any kind of nut allergy, be VERY careful with eating Key Lime Pie! Yesterday, FI and I were out to dinner for his birthday. We spent the day and Islamorada and decided to go to dinner before we went home. We ordered some Key Lime Pie for dessert, and after a few bites his throat started to feel weird. He is very allergic to cashews. We asked the waiter and he said that mixed with the graham cracker crust was walnuts. So I started to freak out. FI said that it was okay because he was only allergic to cashews. Well the waiter came back after talking with the manager and said that there is cashews in the crust as well! So of course we rushed out of the restaurant, got him some Benadryl at a gas station and then ended up calling an ambulance anyways. He was transported to a hospital and broke out into hives when at the hospital! He is fine now, but that could have turned out really bad. The menu did not list anywhere that there were nuts in the Key Lime Pie and I had never heard of nuts being mixed in with the crust! So i just wanted to share this information with you girls, just to be careful, because you never know how some of the foods are prepared! Needless to say, we are definitely going to be MUCH more careful when eating out! The nurse in the ER said that FI was not the first patient to come into the hospital because of the key lime pie at this restaurant. Thanks for listening and I hope this helps someone! :)

Wow Lindsay! That is so crazy, I can't believe they had nuts in the crust mix without any warning. I'm so glad James is okay, sorry you guys had to spend some of the day at the hospital. :( Have you called the restaurant since? They really need to get their act together. A little sticker added would work! Again Im glad he is okay. :(

Thank you girls! I am so glad he is okay too! James is actually calling the restuarant right now, so we will see what happens. It was pretty scary! Definitely a sticker or something would have been nice! We probably should have asked before we ordered it, but we never thought nuts were even in Key Lime Pie! I guess some resturants use different recipes! :) I am glad everything is okay now and that he is back to normal! :)

Wow! Crazy! Glad he's ok!!! I've seen nuts used in a crust before... the texture of the ground nut makes it perfect to use.

Yeah I'm so happy to hear that he's much better. That's horrible that they didn't list the ingredients on the menu. Every place should list food allergies on their menus. How scary that must of been, I would of been P O'd at the restaurant.

Wow that's scary but glad it all turned out okay ... I would def mention your FI's allergy before ordering at ANY restaurant.
