Freaking Out About My Date/ STDs..

Morning Ladies!

Okay, I'm getting worried about the date we've chosen. We are getting married 12/22/12. My parents are making me feel like no one is going to come to my wedding because it's so close to Christmas...

I chose this date because I'll have just graduated, people will be able to come into town because everyone will be on Winter break (most of my family are teachers), my friends will be able to attend (winter break, again), and because 12/22 is the anniversary of the day we told each other we loved each other in 2005.

We're currently inviting 81 people. I'd be happy if 60 something were there. But, now I'm very upset that no one will attend because I'm so close to Christmas. :(

Also, when should I send out my STDs so I give everyone enough time to make plans, etc. I definitely don't mind sending them out early. Would this be helpful and possibly encourage more people to attend?

I actually think more people would be able to attend because it is close to Christmas for all the reasons you listed. Look at it this way, people will have opinions about who can attend when no matter WHAT date you choose! Mine is during a popular spring break time, which I did on purpose, but others chimed in saying no one would attend because plane tickets would be higher and they will be vacationing, etc etc. Do what you want, especially since it is such a special date to you to begin with!

As for sending STD's, don't send them too early- people will just totally forget! But I think 6-9 months is good timing- it gives people the opportunity to make travel plans, request off of work, etc. Then your invites will go out about 3-4 months later as a 2nd reminder. :)  Stay strong with your date!!!!

    Thanks for the STD advice!

I'm worried about airfare prices as well as bad weather for out  of town guests. Honestly, I don't want a ton of people there, but I also don't want to be sitting there with only 20 guests, haha!!

I guess only time will tell!

People said that about my wedding date 12/10/11- no one would come in between two holidays. I don't really care, we are now inviting 135 (thx to my crazy parents!) but I would be happy with 80! I would send out STD's soon

I think since it is so close to the holidays i would send them out 8-9 months out. Agree with PP - Guests should have more time off to come, but then again if they celebrate Christmas and out of town they may not be able to afford it.

    Thanks for the opinions!

I will definitely send out my STDs around 8-9 months.

Unless it's a jewish wedding, I wouldn't do a Christmas wedding....People have the worries of the holidays( money ), visiting family ( more money) and a wedding on tourist high season ( even more money some people may not have ). It is ultimately your choice but it is something to consider... HTH

We aren't Jewish but we figure that the majority of people who are coming in from out of town (mostly close family friends and family) would probably be coming into town anyways!

I really feel torn on what to do. The date works great with my schedule and it's totally fine if some people don't come but like I said before I also don't want to be sitting there awkwardly with like 20 guests at my reception, haha.

Our parents think we should we have it whatever day we want and that if people come, they come, and if they don't, the don't.

    They aren't too helpful, haha.

i agree with ur parents..do it whatever day you want... but if your going to be freaking out about it..maybe you should rethink it... is more then half your guest list out of town? If it is maybe you shouldnt have it so close but if its not then just dont count out of town guest as for sure... Also think that people will be on a tight budget so do not expect great or many gifts... and make sure you tell them far in advance so that the ones that are coming that can make it will get cheaper flights :)

Thanks for the advice! Out of 81 people, about 22 of them are oots and a lot of them are immediate family- his parents and siblings, my aunt, uncle, cousins, etc. The others are people who we invited out of curtesy. Thank you for bringing up the percentage of people coming in from out of town! It makes me feel better to relize that those who are OOT don't make up a huge percentage of the list and half of the OOTs are coming anyways since they are immediate family. :)
