Wedding Reception "Patio" (Help)

Ok, I have a ballroom that holds up tp 80 people. I can satisfy my up to 130 guests if I seat tables on the patio.

Before I ask the question I feel I have to describe the setting:

It is a ballroom on the beach and from ceiling to floor are windows with a door that opens to the patio that overlooks the beach.

Who do I seat on the patio?

My "elderly" family members who may not favor the loud music- but I feel they may want to close to me on my big day?

My smoker friends- but their loved ones and table partners may not be smokers and they will want to dance?

Or should I book a different place- the official contract has yet to be signed....

Help

Hmmm... that's tough. Are you able to keep the doors open and make it feel like one big space? When is your wedding? Will the weather be a factor?

If you sit the elderly folks outside and it's either too hot or too cold that could be a problem. So take the weather into account as well. Plus if you can keep the doors open and it is hot, the AC in the indoors part will be working overtime.

You might need to start looking at other possible venues. Sorry.  :(

    that is a tough one...
I agree that the elderly people are usually uncomfortable if it is too hot or too cold .. although on the other hand, it is a good idea due to the music level being lower.

As far as putting the smokers out there .. for me personally, I wouldn't mind at all being put at a table outdoors, but if I was the unfortunate table mate that had to sit there and smell cigarettes all night I'd be annoyed out of my mind.

Also, if it is just one door that opens up onto the patio, then those outside might feel really secluded.
Wish I could be more helpful, but I'm not really sure this is your best option :(

In all honesty.. I would keep looking... if all of your guests cant fit in a room....

I went to a wedding once where they were going to put tables outside to make room and I just thought it was soooo unfair.. how do you choose who goes outside and who is inside? You are bound to insult someone!

I went to my cousin's wedding a few years ago and some people were seated outside and some were seated inside. The bride and groom were inside. Those of us that were seated outside felt like 2nd class citizens because we couldn't see anything that was going on inside. Plus it was chilly and damp. Unless it feels like one big open space so all guests feel included, I would either look for something else or cut your guest list.
