Tropical Storm Warning. STAY SAFE LADIES!

South Florida is currently under a tropical storm warning* including areas east of I-95 in Broward County. Hurricane Sandy exited the northern coast of Cuba and is moving north at 18 mph. Under the current forecast track the center of Sandy will pass more than 200 miles east of South Florida. The National Weather Service is forecasting 20-30 mph sustained winds with occasional gusts of 35-40 mph today and tonight. Tomorrow the forecast is for 30-35 mph sustained winds with frequent gusts of 50 mph. The coastal areas can expect winds of 35-40 mph with gusts as high as 60 mph. Winds will taper off late Friday. Rainfall is expected to be 1-3 inches total for Thursday and Friday. Main impacts are expected to be:· Broken/downed trees and tree branches· Downed power lines resulting in some power outages.· Dangerous driving conditions on bridges and overpasses, particularly for high-profile vehicles.Broward Emergency Management is not recommending any protective measures at this time. The Broward EOC is at Level 3 and BEMD is closely monitoring this storm. Additional flash reports will be issued as needed.*A tropical storm warning means that tropical storm conditions are expected within the watch area, generally within 24-36 hours.
