Florida-South Florida

Hmmm, not sure what to call this post?

Okay, so the Fi and I went to see the Women's Club of Coconut Grove this past weekend.  I really loved the space, it's the blank canvas I was looking for and it really does have a lofty feel.  Fi thinks it's a bit small but we're only having 100 guests max.  I think it's plenty of space.  They offer a lot of great things to go along, but the only thing I'm not convinced about is the catering.  Erica (the sales person) told me that we can bring in our own caterer for $5/pp, which kind of sucks because that would give us the option to use the club's banquet tables and chairs, which I wanted to change to royal & square tables and chivari (with the catering package she was giving me a great price on the tables and chairs.)  Oh, you also have to use their lighting vendor, which is fine I guess, because I only want uplights and the celing draped.

Does anyone have any catering recs?  I want to really find out if it's worth the price to make the change or to just stick with Bill Hansen (who she swore up and down was God's gift to catering - any opininons on that?).  I called Mena catering and I'm going to call Food by Chef Lars later.  I want someone who can customize a menu...

Please help...

I've heard Bill Hansen is amazing but have never tasted anything that he has made.

Yeah, I heard the same but the menu we were offered at the location was pretty "blah" my FI was only impressed by the fact that his head bartender (which Erica said she could gaurantee for teh night) is the owner of Club Play on South Beach (formerly the Fifth).  Because all he really cares about is the drinks lol!!

    Thanks Courtney!!

I've heard Bill Hansen is great, though I don't think I've ever tried his stuff before. I was turned off by the Women's Club for the same reason. GL! I hope it works out!

Hi all~ I'm getting married at Villa Woodbine in Coconut grove and Bill Hansen is the exclusive caterer there.  It's one of the reasons I chose the venue.  I've been to three weddings there and the food was the best I've ever had at a wedding.  I dont know if Hansen offers the same choices at the womans club in terms of menu options.  That would be something I suggest you ask before making the decision.  One thing that sold me at the Villa was that he cooks everything on site - fresh! He gave me a great price on an elaborate cocktail reception with hors d'oeuvres and carving stations.  It was an excellent alternative to the much more expensive buffet or served dinner options!  And made the Villa more economical than most hotels I priced!  I hope this helps you or anyone else make up their minds about BIll Hansen~
