Grand Salon grand NIGHTMARE!

My Fiance & I booked our ceremony & recetion site on December 8, 2010 with our date set at September 17, 2011. Within our contract it was stated that we owe a certain percentage of the balance on specific dates. We received an e-mail 14 days prior to our next payment stating we owe half the remaining balance. Sice that was clearly a mistake, my fiance called and spoke to the lady. She told him that our contract was a prototype, it no longer exisits and we need to pay that amount by that time so we don't have to pay a 10% penalty fee as well.

We are both going to meet and speak more indepth with them about this today but has anoyone gone throught this and can give advice? My relationship with this Vendor will and can never be the same after this. My heart is broken!

I would think that if you have a copy of a contract that you and the vendor signed, they can't change the terms, even if they changed how they currently handle their contracts and payment schedules. I would fight them on it. I haven't had this problem but I'm sure it is totally stressful! Good luck!

Yeah, if you have a signed contract with that information stated in it, they can't change it (unless it mentions somewhere that they can).

PP's are right, they need to abide by their contract. But you're saying that you're upset about the relationship with the vendor, which is understandable. You want to be able to trust them on your special day! I wonder if you speak with someone different than who you first spoke with, and they are able to work things out to stick with the original contract, maybe you'll feel safe with them again? Every company can have one really stupid employee that makes the whole operation look bad. Maybe you were just speaking with one person who doesn't really represent the company well. I just lost a client today (whom I had never even met) because of the mistakes of another employee within my company. Hopefully everything will work out!

Thank you all for the replies. Now for the update: My FI and & agreed since I was so upset about this, he would do all the talking. When we went, I cleared my mind & he did as so. The lady began to elaborate how this old contract was a problem for them and the figure must have been from the new contract. She began to explain that what ever contract we have, we should have half of the wedding paid. When asked as to how she came up with that, she kept reiterating about this new contrat. None of her answers made any sense so I guess she decided to talk to her boss. She came back and said she would let us make a certain payment of the contract. Which to us, was the similar to what the contract stated.
Is my relationship the same? No. But I have to say I will be in constant communication and double check every single thing!
