The order of ring is usually ... wedding band first then engagement. This is done for two purposes.
1. If you choose to remove your engagement ring (which usually holds the big stone) so that you don't damage it or something else, you can stay with the wedding band on.
and
2. Which is the most important reason... it's because it's closest to your heart.
