Florida-South Florida

Hair/Makeup Advice (Kind of long w/ a vent..sorry!)

Alright, so while I was in Florida I also had a makeup trial and a hair trial on Saturday, right before my shower.  Neither of them went as well as I was hoping
:(

First, the hair girl was very sweet.  I had her try one half-up half-down style first, and I told her that I wanted some volume... I don't like flat to my head hair unless I'm doing it straight.  It was so flat to my head that it looked like I had just jumped in the pool.  Terrible! So, I had her switch it to a loose, messy bun and add more volume in the front.  Flat to my head again, even though I kept telling her I wanted volume.  Very frustrating.  She took so long it made the poor makeup girl late for work.

For makeup, the MUA was also very sweet and I think very talented.  However, I guess I'm not really into the traditional bridal makeup style... I do my makeup all the time, and love the way I do it. She was very good, just not my style even after I tried to get her to change it up a little.

here's the part where I need advice... I know that I'll have to find someone else to do my hair because I'm terrible at anything other than my natural waves or straight, but I'm leaning towards doing my own makeup for my wedding day.  I know I might be stressed because it's my wedding and I want it to be perfect, but I like the way I did my makeup much more than the way the MUA did, and I'd be saving $125.  Do you girls think I should book the MUA and use her for the wedding, just with more time so I can make sure she does it just how I'd do it?  Or just do it myself?

If you look at my shower pics, the MUA did my makeup right before that, but I had to redo my foundation around my chin and change up my eyes.  I feel like I should like it the way they do it in order to book someone.  Ughhh... I just wish this would be easier!  One thing that makes this whole MUA/Hair choosing thing difficult is that I'll only be down in FL for my bachelorette for a few days at the beginning of March, only one month before my wedding.

Thanks for your advice!

I understand how you feel.  I am having a similar issue and still don't have a hair person.  After one makeup trial, I went upstairs and added some bronzer because my foundation didn't match exactly to how I like it.  I am booking another trial for the end of the month to see if that might get it perfected a little more.

I'd suggest having a trial with someone else in a month to see if that is closer to what you want.  It isn't a big deal to do it yourself.  It's just one less thing that you would have to worry about doing the day of.

I think if you are able to do it yourself, do it. You just have to remember to add a lot more than normal. I would also try another makeup artist if you have time.
I think this will be an issue for me as well, because of course I want it perfect. Did you try the people gregory paul recommended

I had a makeup/hair trial this weekend too that I wasn't a fan of so I understand. I would say if you do another trial show them a picture of yourself and how you usually like your makeup so they have a reference of your style. I don't know what to tell you about hair because if you kept saying volume and it was flat that is weird. The girl I saw had to put a round sponge thing on top of my head to get the volume for my updo (it was a little too high for me but something like that may work.)

I'm sorry it didn't go how you hoped it would! I don't think it is that big of a deal to do your own make-up to be honest. Either way you are going to have to make the time to sit there while it is being done. You will probably be less stressed if you know you will do it right! Now hair is a tricky one. Maybe when you come down next you can scheduel appointments with 2 or 3 people? 1 is bound to work out! Good luck, hope it works out ;)

I would suggest doing more make up trails when you get another hair trail... However if you want to DIY make up make sure it is layered enough so it doesnt go away too fast and is noticible in pics... :)

I can recommend my hair and MU people (info. in my bio).

Other than that, I don't think doing your own MU is a problem. Just like the other girls said, make sure it's really noticeable for pics. though.
