Registry suggestions

We are going to Macys tonight to start our registry, any advice?

We are registered at Macy's, and they have an awesome program.

If you don't have a Macy's card yet, make sure you get one (I am sure they will tell you this too).  If you have a Macy's card, they will link it to your registry, and you will get 5 percent back from what everyone spent in gift cards after the wedding.

Also, if you purchase anything using your Macy's card that is on your registry, you will get 10 percent back in the gift cards.

So if there is anything you are planning on buying from Macy's before the wedding, make sure you put it on your registry first so you get something back.

Thanks for the info! I usually hate store credit cards so I probably would have missed out on this because I would have cut them off. I guess I'll be getting another credit card!

Yeah, I didn't really want one either, but it's a good deal.

And when you get one, you get 15 percent off everything for two days.  So we put our toasting flutes (that were on sale, plus a "wear red" discount on top of that) on our registry and used the card.  Which meant sale price, plus 20 percent off (wear red promotion), plus 15 percent off (Macys card), plus 10 percent back later b/c it was on the registry.

I have no idea what they cost in the end, but all that sounded good to me.

If you are getting China, then have the consultant help you.  If you don't want China, then tell them to get lost.  Our consultant was a bit pushy and pressured us into adding about $5,000 worth of china on our registry, that we went home and deleted.  My parents passed a full set to me instead.  I didn't need a new one.

Definitely get a range of prices and departments for gifts.  As pp stated, get a Macy's card too if you don't already have one.  Something we did when working on the registry was add 2 items we wanted immediately and then bought them on the spot so they counted toward the rewards.

I don't even know if I want china. I guess I'll have to talk to FI before we go so we are on the same page

Ugh, china...we got suckered into registering for it and I had NO clue how much it was. I got home and went to add something to the registry and saw that it was like $100 for a small serving bowl! Ya, ok my family would think I had officially lost it if I kept it on the registry!

I ended up registering for china, but it wasn't really that expensive, and it's not too formal (http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=99328&CategoryID=30825). It's also dishwasher and microwave safe.

Fi didn't want china, but I really like it and pushed it.  He finally said fine and that he likes it b/c it has boats :)

But we also already have a lot of stuff, and our next big thing will be getting dining room furniture since we have a separate - and currently empty - dining room.  So I want stuff for that room.

I think I'd rather get other stuff first before the China, so maybe if we start to run out of things on the registry we can reconsider the china

    BTW blueeyed very cute pick!
