Just Engaged and Proposals

An Introduction

Hi all!  Wow, I just noticed this board, very cool that this exists now! :)I am also, of course, just engaged.  FI popped the question on August 27th while on vacation, right after our 6-year anniversary.  We're just starting the planning -- looking to do a June 2011 wedding right after we both graduate from grad school.  Planning a wedding during grad school may sound scary to some, but for us, it's a nice break from schoolwork!Right now we're trying to set a budget and find a venue so we can set a date and get the details rolling.  Looking forward to getting to know you all and helping each other out through this craziness!!

Re: An Introduction

  • I did a lot of my planning during the end of grad school and during my internship... you are right, it was a nice break!  I would suggest that once you set a budget, date, and guest list to book some of the bigger things (venue, etc.) right away so that you can sit back and relax and work out the details at your leisure instead of trying to make important wedding decisions during inconvenient times!
  • Onefish -- Good to know someone else has been through that!  We definitely want to book the "big things" asap -- including venues for wedding & reception, photographer, and DJ.  Then we'll have about a year and a half to plan all the details when it's convenient.  FI works full-time with grad school part time and I'm doing grad school full time with internship part time...so it's definitely a good thing that we'll have a long engagement! Thanks for the advice :)
  • Congrats and GL!  I agree with onefish.  My sister was in the same scenario and it helped to have big things out of the way!
