Just Engaged and Proposals

Newbie and question on Engagement photos

Hi all!  So I've been looking at TK for a bit now (we talked about getting engaged before actually doing it) and he totally surprised me by proposing before we boarded the plane for a 12 day trip thoughout Europe.

We are on a pretty tight budget, so we're considering skipping the Engagement photos and using photos from the trip.  I do not want to regret skipping these photos, but I don't want to spend unnecessary money when we have pictures from around the world.

The other thing is that, I was thinking of having table "cities" instead of table numbers.  So there would be a picture of us in Paris, and instead of being seated at table 8, a  guest would be seated at Paris.  We both love to travel so I thought it would be a cute way of incorporating travel.

So maybe just use one photo for the STD's instead of doing engagement photos? Please help!

Also (side note) what does PIP mean?  haha

Thanks!!!

Hi and congrats!! That's a great way to kick off a trip :) PIP means picture in post. You put that in your subject line if you want people to know you've posted a picture. As for the table numbers, I love the idea of using cities! My fiancé and I are using years and will have a picture of us during that year (ie- table 1985 will have a picture of us as babies). The city idea is awesome!! Engagement pictures are certainly not a requirement! I know a lot of girls on the board I frequent who aren't doing them, but I also know a lot of girls who are! I will say that it's a good way to interact with your photographer before the wedding but it's completely up to the couple! Happy planning :)

  • Agreed.  No need to pay your photographer for formal engagement photos if you like the photos from the trip :-)
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • Congrats!!  How exciting!!  I love the idea of naming the tables after places you have been-it gives it a personal touch!!

Regarding the engagement pictures, those are totally optional!!  Unless you are extremely familiar with your photographer (keep in mind they only show you their best as samples!!) it can be beneficial to have the engagement photos!!  It will show you the photographer in action and see his or her work with you and FI!!  I know of two people who got new photographers after engagement photos due to technique.  It may be worth it to have engagement pictures before the real thing!!
  • check with your photographer, sometimes they include the engagement photos into the wedding packages, but you do not need to have them done if you have photos that you really love from your trip!

Thanks everyone!  We have a ton of pictures together, so I think we are going to skip.  I have a friend who does photography and maybe I"ll have him snap a few nice photos of us with the ring (I was crying when he proposed- so my eyes are all red in that picture).  Awesome to have such a fast response!  =)  Excited to be here with you all!!!
