Hello everyone! I just started planning and posting. I would love to be one of those people that waits to plan but around here it's so hard to find venues. I've already had a number of places tell me that they're all booked up for ALL of 2012 and many more telling me they have nothing in the entire season we're hoping for. Eeps!
I have been engaged since this past Friday and it was so sweet. My FI recently returned home after spending a month in another state for daily radiation treatment. We found out this past year he had skin cancer , he had some skin removed, a very large tumor removed, and lots of treatments. He does his first post-surgery scan in January where we fully expect to hear that his body is cancer-free thanks to the amazing doctors we worked with.
I decided while he was out of state that since I felt helpless, I wanted to help in anyway I could. I signed up for a 10K race to run with Team LIVESTRONG (cancer research foundation) at the beach. The weather was predicted to be absolutely horrible all weekend. Wind, rain, cold. All of it.
He said he originally planned to ask me after the finish line but 1) the weather was supposed to suck and he didn't figure that a good time to propose outside and 2) it's a good thing he didn't - we couldn't find each other for 45 minutes after I crossed the finish line! Imagine him walking around trying to find me to propose losing his mind!
The night before the race we went to dinner with the other LIVESTRONG people and when we got back he said he wanted to go out on the oceanview balcony. I told him not to be ridiculous, it's cold outside, and that I was taking a shower. So he told me not to be a poor sport and we paid for the balcony so we might as well enjoy it for a minute or two. I reluctantly went out and the view at night was really quite beautiful. We snuggled on the balcony for a bit then he asked me if I wanted my anniversary present early (our dating anniversary is Halloween) and I said sure.
He told me it was in his pocket then pulled out a small box. We're always talking about how I need nice earrings since I'm allergic to nickel so I assumed that's what was in the box and didn't want to get my hopes up for a ring. I said "Ooh - is it a pony?!" to which he replied "Does it look like it's a pony?" and I said "... a miniature pony?" (we're both giant smartasses).
At that point he opened the ring as he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I stared at him with my face in my hands and my mouth wide open and said yes. He stood back up, we kissed, and he said "Good, now let's go back inside it's friggen cold out here" lol.
It took me until I was inside to start crying since it all happened so fast but it was so sweet. The ring is a composite black diamond center with regular diamonds surrounding on an antique band. It's so unique and certainly fits my personality to a tee.
So that's my story - I'm excited to get to know everyone on the boards and get to planning my face off! And happy engagement to my fellow newbs!!!
