Officiant Freak-Out

Let me preface this saying that our officiant is a family friend.

Our officiant called us last night and said that her father was just diagnosed with a couple week so to live.  So if he dies this week, we're obviously out of an officiant because she's going to go up there to be with family.

So now I'm having to email everyone I know that can perform a wedding ceremony and ask them if they'd be willing to be a back-up in case our original officiant can't make it.

This is not what I want to deal with a week before the wedding.  I  completely understand her needing to go up with her dad and don't blame her one bit, but it still sucks.

Oh my goodness!!!  Honestly, this is Not something you want to be dealing with this late in the game.  Rather than seeing if you can find a backup just in case.. I would just find a new officiant altogether.  And kindly let her know that with all that is going on, it's probably best not to add this to her plate.

    GOOD LUCK!!!!

Holy crap, Navy!  I didn't realize your wedding was so close.  Just remember this is just a bump in the road and you will find someone.  If anything have someone become ordained online.  Good luck, hun.  I hope everything else goes as planned.

Well, I contaced my old speech teacher and he said he should be able to do it if she can't.  I just have to let him know by Wednesday.  So, hopefully that works out.

He said he's ordained through the Universal Life Church.  Does anyone know if that type of ordination is legal in Florida?

Sorry you are stressing this close to the wedding. All you need is a notary so if you can't find someone who is ordained, it might be easier to just find a notary. I am sure everything will work out :) Good Luck.

I agree with another post earlier you should probably just want to go ahead and get the back up officiant and relieve the other one of her duties just for that security and so you won't be in limbo the next few days.

I am glad everything worked out ok for you. I know for a fact Universal Life Church is fine (because I had my own freakout about it and asked the county clerks office). As long as they are in good standing (which they obviously are) its no biggie and they probably wont even ask to see any papers. I asked :).  Just curious, is it an old speech teacher from FSU?

He is awesome! I had him for speech as well and he is still by far one of my favorite professors at FSU!
