Cake baker in St Augustine or Jax? Recommendations?

Hello all,

We are in the midst of planning our St. Augustine wedding for this September. Being that we are having a very short engagement and are paying for this ourselves, our budget is not quite what we were hoping. I have almost everything lined up, except a cake... We are having a very small wedding, 70 people, and our budget is $2.00 per serving for the cake. Obviously we want and need something pretty small, and it does not need to be fancy... just off-white basic tiered cake. I have ordered some small button groupings from etsy (seller - Jillianns where I am getting all my "flowers" and am SO excited!) that I will use to decorate the cake, so "plain" is fine. I am not picky. I have not started looking too much, but the places I HAVE looked, are out of our price range. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!
Kristen

I'd check with Publix.  I am going to Defor's in St. Augustine on Saturday for an appointment, but I know for buttercream they start at $3 a slice.  Publix is probably your best bet for a reasonably priced cake...and they taste great :)

I was going to say Publix too.  Another thought if you want to do it is get a sheet cake that is in the back that no one can see and they will also use that to serve to your guest.  All the guest will see is the smaller decorated cake on the table.  That will save you some money.  I will probably end up doing that for my cake.  :)

Your best bet for $2/serving is Walmart.  Publix is higher than $2/serving, especially after you add in all the fees.

I'm going with Publix and BJ's.

We invited 100 guests.  For a total of about $200 dollars, I ordred a 2 tier cake from Publix as well as a Groom's cake, and I'm ordering a sheet cake from BJ's (to serve the guests).

If you don't do a Groom's cake, you can totally get away with doing it that cheap.

Thanks for all the suggestions... I didn't realize how cheap sheet cakes were at Sam's... I just gave them a call. $34.87 for a full sheet cake feeding 72-96 people, and $16.64 for 1/2 sheet feeding 36-48 people. I like the idea of having a small cake displayed, and then having the sheet cake in the back. Now I just need to find out where I will get the "decorative" cake. Thanks everyone!
