I love Arizona.  I considered myself a California girl until I moved here 10 years ago; now, I can't see myself living anywhere else in the world.

Arizona is a desert state, so it is hot.  115 degrees in the summer isn't all that unusual!  That said, it is a dry heat (I'm sure you've heard that much, lol), and I'd take a dry 115 over a wet 90 any day of the week.

As someone who moved from AZ to the East Coast about 2 years ago, I will tell you that it is a completely different style of living.  Not good or bad, just different.  I personally prefer AZ because it's so open and less congested (in the suburbs and it's mostly suburbs). For me, the East Coast is so squashed together.  Also, everyday is a sunny day in AZ.  It gets hot and there aren't really seasons, but at least the sweat evaporates off of your skin, unlike here (Baltimore).  I forget how beautiful AZ really is until I've been away for a while.  It's not just brown ugly desert all the time :)  I think with some adjusting, it will be great!

I moved here from New York about 4 years ago. It was a shock. Partially because I went from living in Queens to living in the extended suburban sprawl of shopping centers and housing complexes that is Phoenix, but also because it's a very different climate (get a good dermatologist) and I find its treatment of racial and ethnic (and any other minority) issues extremely problematic. There are some lovely people here, but it's not very diverse and the government/society has a tendency to be rather nasty. Also, you need a car. Ugh. But that's just me.

I just have to point out that Arizona isn't all desert.  The metropolitan areas (Phoenix and Tucson) are, but there are plenty of places in Arizona that don't get that hot and actually snow in the winter.  I grew up in a small town in the mountains in northern Arizona.  The weather and scenery there are beautiful, but you'd go out of your mind with boredom, especially coming from NYC.
