Rolf's Cake Tasting

We had heard terrible things about Rolf's, like the coustomer service was very poor and that they were just a bad company to work with. So we went to our tasting today and were blown away. The girl we meet with was super nice and helpful. I don't really like cake but the cake selections seemed to be pretty expansive and quite good. I know that we do not have our final cake and have not tasted the final product, but I was pretty impressed with the meeting today. We have to use Rolf's as it is part of our package with the Lodge. I was impressed today. However, their location is really far and the times that they can meet with you are super inconvienent, but its done and I guess Im just waiting to see the final product......over all Im happy with the meeting today.

We were very impressed too at our tasting, especially after some of the comments I have heard here  : )  My fiance is very boring about cakes (only eats plain chocolate and vanilla) but he actually liked their carrot cake, red velvet, banana and most of the fillings!  I couldn't believe it!  Which cake did you go with?  I think we picked the cherry blossom design (but coloring will be a green color instead of the pinkish) and alternating layers of devils chocolate and white cake with strawberry and custard fillings.  I cannot wait to try it!

Yeah, I heard alot of bad reviews too and was happy after our tasting!  We chose double devil's food cake with irish cream mousse filling and then almond pound cake with white chocolate mouse filling.  It was so hard to decide - everything was so good!!

I heard bad things about Rolf's, too, but we had a great experience at our tasting.  Generally, I've heard if you order a cake out of their book, it'll turn out great, but custom designs seem to be the problem. We're doing a marble chiffon cake with chocolate fudge and raspberry preserve fillings.

Glad you had a good experience!!  I think Rolf's has an unfair reputation on this board, we had a great experience with them as well!

ditto on being pleasantly surprised! We're doing 4 different kinds of cake--one on each layer:chocolate with choc. moussevanilla w/choc. moussered velvet with strawberry mousse (so. good!)apple spice with caramel cream mousse (wasn't on the tasting menu, asked special for it)we're also doing a custom design, but it's really simple so they should be able to pull it off! =)

Honestly, I think that they have started to change their customer service after numerous negative reviews. I think that they realized that even though the cake is part of the package, they can't treat people poorly. I still don't like the way their cake tastes though. It's OK cake but not nearly as good as some of the independent bakers in the city.

We had to go with Rolf's as well since they are included in our venue but had no problems with them either. Our coordinator person is new so maybe that's why? She was really nice and very accommodating -- we picked something from the book but we changed the colors to match our wedding colors. We are going with two different flavors alternating on our 5 tier cake -- red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting and marble cake with custard filling and fresh strawberries which we requested. I'm really excited about the cake!

So it looks like other people were suprised by the service, well maybe they are responding to the bad reviews on TK and Yelp. We met with Stacey and we told her that we were impressed bc we went there with very low expectations. She said that she had only been there for a few months.....I still dont know how much I will like the final product, but we did 5 teirs, devils food and white cake, with 2 layers having Irish Cream moose, and 3 layers having chocolate moose.....I dont know I really like Jewel Cake with sprinkles, so Im hoping this turns out! :)

We have our tasting in a few weeks.  Who did you other ladies meet with?  Stacey as well?  I've been corresponding with Joann.

We were at the Lodge as well. Our cake tasted great and looked good. I made my appointment WAY in advance with them for our tasting. Best wishes!
