Hair/Makeup for BMs - who pays?

Trying to figure out who should pay for hair/makeup for 4 BMs...  is it inappropriate to ask them to pay for their own? I've only been in one wedding MANY years ago, and I think I paid for my hair, and did my own makeup. Thanks!!

I'm not planning on paying for my BM hair or makeup, but I've also told them it is up to them if they want to have it professionally done.  A friend of mine who will be attending the wedding and use to do hair/makeup professionally offered to do mine as a gift, so i won't be doing the salon thing.  The day before we will be getting our nails done together though and I plan cover that.  I was recently in a  wedding wherein the bride had said that she wanted everyone getting their hair done (updos) professionally and most were put off by having to pay for it.  Admittedly I was kinda one of them cause the wedding had already cost me about a thousand dollars (flights and hotel for the wedding and batchelorette event, dress, etc).

If you are going to require your BMs to have their hair and makeup done, then yes I personally feel you should pay. However, if you give them the option I don't think you need to pay for the services.I secured stylists, then gave my girls the option (along with the prices) on whether they wanted to do them or not. Some did both, some did just one, and one of the girls did neither.

Yea, I'd just ask the girls and give them a choice.  They should know whether they are capable of their own hair and makeup.  That way no one can get upset...

Thanks!!  I was definitely going to make it an option, not a requirement.  What you all have said sounds reasonable and was pretty much what I was thinking.

i think if you have a lot of bm's on board, a stylist might give you a discount. with that said, if your wedding is a few months out, BM circumstances may change (layoffs etc) and they may not at that point be able to afford it. i have seen it be an issue in a post a while back.

They pay for their own.  I've been a BM ten times and never had mine paid for.  It would be generous of you to do it, but not expected.
