Macy's Bridal Salon - Alterations

Hi! Has anyone used Macy's on State Street for alterations? I'm considering it becasue I bought me dress there, but I really haven't heard too much about it. I don't know if I should be taking my dress somewhere else! Thanks!

Very expensive, but if you work with Alicia (I can't comment on anyone else), she does a good job. They hold the dress and all accessories (veil, etc.) for you until a day or so before the wedding.  I went with them for convenience, but I am sure going somewhere else would have been more cost effective.

Chicagobride- can you give idea of how much the alterations are? I have my first fitting on Saturday and I'm a little nervous- I heard they start at $600?

It really depends on your dress, but the figure you quoted sounds in the right ballpark.   I never looked into going elsewhere, but I see other places (Dress Doctor, Mary Catomy, etc.) highly recommended on here all the time and they might be a little more reasonable. GL!

I didn't use them because it was a giant bait and switch operation, IMO.  Ronia wouldn't quote me alterations prices when I bought the dress because she had no idea what they would cost.  What a load of BS.  Anyone with half a brain would have told you that the top needed to be taken in, and that was it.My dress was $1300 and alterations were going to be $400.  When the alterations lady told me the cost I was in shock.  $150 for the straps, $150 for the bodice, $50 for the bustle (not French- just a button.  A button!), and $50 to trim the bow.  To trim the bow!!! Sure, it would have been convenient, but I couldn't justify the extra cost.I used someone my coordinator recommended and she did the entire thing for $200.  And it's wonderful.

I worked with Alicia - the head of alterations and she was great. It is expensive. All I needed was a SIMPLE bustle and for them to take a 1/4 inch out under one of my arms b/c the dress was sitting a little high, and it was $250.  I definitely got my alterations done there b/c it was convenient for me. I work a couple of blocks away and could run over during lunch.  I also liked the fact that they kept the dress for me until the Thursday before my wedding and that they steamed it. If I needed major alterations and was looking at $600-$700, I would have taken the dress elsewhere.
