old chi knottie poppping in, need a food rec.

hi ladies!! Not sure if anyone around here still remembers me, I posted here and on the DW board for my June 09 wedding. Just popping in to say hi and ask for some help. Long story short, I'm graduating next weekend and the place where I had made reservations for dinner just called to say they were closing. boo!so, what restaurant (pref downtown but we would be willing to eat anywhere) would you want to go to for your graduation dinner? Any price range. My mom likes lasagna, fillet or a good hamburger. the rest of us will eat anything. ;) Thanks ladies!

Congrats!  I love Quartino for a group.

Hmm, off the top of my head...Italian Village, Frontera Grill, Vong's Thai Kitchen, the Parthenon, Tuscany (the one by UIC), Publican, Cafe Ba Ba Reeba or Cafe Iberico...Quartino's is good too! Good luck and congratulations!!!

PP's suggestions are great.  I would also add Carnivale to the list to check out.  Also, Prickly Pear in La Grange if you want a really fun dining experience.  You have to make reservations because it's about a 6 course dinner (smaller portions except for the main course). It's also BYOB.  The Chef's surprise you with whatever they feel like cooking up that day.  We went and LOVED it!  It's right near the Metra stop in La Grange.  It was like opening presents, it was fun to see what they would bring out next and the food was fantatstic!

I would also look at Maggianos, Mon Ami Gabi, Wildfire, Petterinos, Bice. HTH!

The Publican was my favorite group restaurant! The selections are seasonal and local, and still fairly affordable. It's a fun atmosphere too, and the dishes lend themselves well to sharing... plus the beer selection is great! I have a full review on my food blog, here: http://bit.ly/183aPg

I second Carnivale- although it gets a little loud there on the weekends. My favorite downtown restaurant for special occassions is Keefer's. The steaks are great and it's a really cool atmosphere.

I agree with Quartino's for a group. It's nice to have options for small plates so everyone can get something they enjoy. They have group packages and you can reserve part of a room or just order off the menu. It does tend to get a little loud during the weekend dinner rush but if you go just a little earlier you have most of the place to yourself. :)Plus, there is a big wine menu at a decent price. Try the pizza! :)
